Kayla – Kayla to the MF J: Poetry and Harmony Combined in a Hard Tempo Hip Hop Cacophony

Kayla has just given me another reason to check out the fresh pool of underground talent in Portland, Oregon. The 22 year old irresistibly talented lyricist has almost unbelievably been creatively inspired by rap since age of 7. I suppose you don’t develop a vocal flow that fierce overnight. Her relentless flow definitely gives her male counterparts a run for their money. She’s come a long way from performing at talent shows to become one of the fiercest contenders in the Rap scene today. Her debut Kayla to the MF J is a thrashing mix of Kayla’s dominant vocals against a harsh Hip Hop beat. After years of taking influence from artists such as Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliot and Kendrick Lamar she was ready to make her contribution to the Hip Hop scene and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Her debut track was founded upon pure poetry, harsh melody and a beautifully brash empowering vocal delivery; there’s a winning combination if I ever heard one.

Kayla’s brand-new single is now available to listen to via Spotify, so go check it out!
