Tanaka Makoni has recently made her Hip Hop debut with the soberingly jazzy hit “Blood Money” and has proven that soul trumps self-aggrandization when it comes to lyrical content.
With inspired and intellectual Rap bars, Blood Money is a track which easily hooks you into the steady, rhythmic, mid-tempo mix. Instead of rapping about being able to afford Hennessey and other capitalistic achievements, Tanaka Makoni speaks to those oppressed by corporate greed.
If there were more Rap artists like Tanaka Makoni using their lyrical waxing to shift perspectives, the Rap genre would be a much different place. We’re already stoked to see what she has up her sleeve for her next release.
