Of all the Indie Pop tracks which I’ve checked out this year, Salina Soto’s single “Blackout” is the one which beguiled me from the first hit the most.
The soft and subtle soundscape almost registers as hypnotic for the way in which the transfixing experimental instrumentals create the perfect Bed for Salina Soto’s unfalteringly magnetic vocals.
Any fans of Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen will quickly come to appreciate the slightly vintage tonality behind the single which is brought right into the contemporary arena through Salina Soto’s offerings of vocal harmony. The vocals flow in complete synergy with the downtempo soundscape carved out by the instrumentals which utilise plenty of inventive effects but leave the accessibility of the single completely uncompromised.
