If you could imagine the melancholy of Elliot Smith mixed with the warm accessibility of the Beatles and the raw, quintessential charm of Bowie, you’d almost get an idea of how viscerally stunning Regal Songs’ 2018 single “Over and Out” is. The complexity of the instrumental arrangements is one thing, but the melody which they carry is quite another. Whilst the vocals are kept simple, sweet and resonant, the orchestral arrangements allow Over and Out to transcend the mediocre and reach an ethereally mesmeric new height.
Thanks to the telegraph signalling sounds on the track, Over and Out, the powerful Pop ballad has an archaic tonality. Yet, the prodigal approach which Regal Songs took ensured that while the single has roots in decades gone by, it was more than fit for contemporary radio.
