Greet the Futility of Existence in Nero Kane’s Darkly Hypnotic Second Album “Tales of Faith and Lunacy”

Italian Dark Psych Folk artist Nero Kane released their sophomore album, ‘Tales of Faith and Lunacy’, on October 30th, following on from the plaintively arid psychedelia in their debut album ‘Love in a Dying World’.

After tracks from their debut album quickly fell into my ‘on repeat’ playlist on Spotify, there was no preparing me for how dark this album was going to be. The droning walls of noise leave you utterly paralysed by the intensity of the emotion. It’s so much more than just senseless nihilism, it’s a series of reflective admissions made regrettably, but sincerely all the same.

Nero Kane

Despite melancholy being a recurring theme, the expansive release offers a myriad of introspective wormholes to slip into. Each track will surprise you more than the last. For anyone that believes that albums are outdated formats, Tales of Faith and Lunacy will prove you wrong. It tears you from the 21st century and invites you to explore a gothic American western landscape constructed by hypnotic minor-key psych-folk infusions with the ability to subjugate your entire consciousness. The space left between the notes in the looped riffs allow your fear, disenchantment and isolation to coalesce with the soundscape.

Lord Won’t Come sets such a devastating tone for the album. The title becomes a mantra as it confirms your fears; there is no salvation which follows the traversing of our seemingly-condemned quite literally scorched earth. Bauhaus and Nick Cave reminiscences are easy to conjure, but Nero Kane has an authentically unique ability to console you, even when he’s telling you that your soul is damned.

Track 2, Mechtild, where you can truly start to appreciate Nero Kane for his inclination to look outside of music for inspiration. Mechtild was inspired by the life of a Christian medieval mystic, the drawn-out notes resonate like celestially meditative whispers implanted by a lover, chilling but passionate all the same.

There isn’t a skippable track on the album but Track 4, Magdalene, offers an unparalleled level of dizzying entrancement as it sonically effervesces. It is the epitome of psychedelia; it almost makes you question your ability to cognitively function as it consumes you. Atop of the viscerally ensnaring kaleidoscopic tones, you’ll find Samantha Stella Stella’s sermonic vocals which will leave you floored by their gracefully convictive command.

Nero Kane

The release poignantly paints a picture of how lunacy has the potential to be in everything we do and everything we feel, from the following of faith to battling self-inflicted psychological destitution. But perhaps more imperatively, the album highlights the danger of going into yourself, only to find madness. After what we have all been through in 2020, Tales of Faith and Lunacy unravels as the cultural sanctity we’ve all been crying out for.

Tales of Faith and Lunacy is due for release on October 30th via Nasoni Records.

Grab a vinyl LP (Black or Crystal Clear), CD Digipack, limited edition cassette or digital copy via Bandcamp.

Sarah Reynolds sings beautifully about her strong faith on ‘Covers Me’

Sometimes, a certain singer just strikes your soul. Sarah Reynolds sings so beautifully about her strong faith on ‘Covers Me‘ and this is a stunningly projected song.

You can feel the love, it covers you and you feel happy. You feel pure and that trust is there and can’t ever be broken. You feel enlightened by all the energies that consume your mind and filter through your body. This is what peaceful love should be like. Things need to be real with no fakeness.

Singer-songwriter, composer and upcoming producer Sarah Reynolds is excellent on ‘Covers Me‘ and her voice takes your mind to another place. You remember when you last thought about your faith and what it means to you. The world moves so fast and sometimes things get lost. This is a performer with an abundance of real faith and she sings so beautifully. The words strike through your heart and you get it. Self-reflection is so important, if only just to take a minute to relax.

Mission:Recovery & MIO drop new passionate new song ”Unfaithful”

Mission:Recovery aka MNR is a rapper, songwriter, singer and music producer from Pune in India. He uses aggressive rap styles and adds in drum & bass dance sound elements to accelerate the music and to accentuate his message on various important youth-centric topics. Major influences include Linkin Park, Fort Minor, Machine Gun Kelly and many more.

Unfaithful” is a sad story about abuse and the raps are alight with fire here on this well-done track. The story is sadly all too real in the world we currently live in. The beat is dark and moody, just like the song. MIO makes an important feature here and the beat turns into a drum & bass track after starting off as Hip Hop. A fabulous mix indeed.

Mission:Recovery & MIO drop ”Unfaithful” into our laps and lets hope this song brings more awareness to the unacceptable abuse of children like it was intended.

Beamersoulboy releases ‘Morals’ ft Suicide Rascal: A Filthy but Faithful recollection!

Beamersoulboy are well on the way to putting themselves on the map with their new release ‘Morals’ ft Suicide Rascal. With the energy of a ten tonne wrecking ball, this track smashes its way through the more coy versions of insult rap and places itself right at the front of the crowd to be noticed. Shamar Williams of Dayton, US, is the mastermind behind Hip-Hop collective, Beamersoulboy.

His artistry is well rounded and confident, and bolstered by indulgent production and mastering.  The lyrics on ‘Morals’ are flagrantly audacious and all the better for it. Beamerboysoul comes across as barefaced and charming all at the same time, just like the boy you shouldn’t take home to meet your mother.  The track has just the right chemical mixture of charisma, bewitchery, innovation and insolence to make even the most buttoned-up chaste blush!

Beamersoulboy are positioning themselves as the epicenter of Hip-Hop with their latest release, ‘Morals’. This is going to be year of discovering new music and I have no doubt that Beamersoulboy will be on the tip of everyones tongue before long.

Ato-Mik drop new single Faithfully ft Malikai Motion: Rap and Hip-hop intertwine

Born and raised in North Vancouver, two brothers Atom and Mikey Mic joined together to create Ato-Mik, recently dropping their single ‘’Faithfully’’.

A lot of aspects of this track stand out, but the main one is without a doubt the way in which both of them sound, they both have such distinct vocals, and they’re not even in the same pitch or pace which is really interesting to listen too.

However, even though the two vocals are pretty diverse they still go side by side and intertwine perfectly. Atom has a fairly soft yet deep vocal range, when he raps it’s not too quick or slow it’s the right amount of pitch and pace. Mikey has a more high-pitched vocal, but his rap is a lot faster.

The energy you hear through this track from both of them is infectious, there’s this constant up-beat rhythm. Faithfully shows how Rap can be done in a more modernised way, Ato-Mik are bringing their revised Rap sound into 2020 and it’s going to be exciting to see what they do next after listening to this.

Faith No More Fans Might Want to Pay Attention to NevilleSounds Debut Single “Ending Scene”

London-based multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter NevilleSounds (Aaron Kieran Neville) has made their solo debut with their single “Ending Scene”. I can quite safely say that any fans of Mike Patton are going to want to hear it.

In parts, Ending Scene is reminiscent of Patton’s unfalteringly smooth crooning style which you’ll hear in the more sedate Faith No More tracks such as Evidence, Ashes to Ashes, and Easy. Yet, the single also throws in plenty of indulgently captivating Pop hooks, giving Ending Scene a massive amount of contemporary appeal – but it’s not without its melancholy.

It’s all but impossible not to make a visceral intrinsic connection with Ending Scene. So frequently moody Alt Pop is totally void of any soul – you may as well stand at a bus stop and listen to someone have a bit of a rant, thankfully, Ending Scene lies on the other end of the spectrum. With the light, vibrant and shimmering Pop elements sitting against the smooth and sonorous Rock, and the Motown soul tones, it’s enough to make your own soul feel exposed.

Ending Scene was inspired by the empathy and compassion found in trying to understand a friend’s terminal diagnosis with cancer. But Ending Scene encompasses a whole manner of other tribulations including our own personal apocalypses and the mental thrashing we take knowing our planet is on fire. Essentially the single serves as a roadmap through the artist’s journey through compassion and death – and it hits hard.

Ending Scene was released on November 1st, and you can check it out for yourselves by heading over to SoundCloud.

JaeBoy – Moonset: The Artist Making it Safe to Have Faith in Hip Hop Again

spotify:track:4oH2EzNEnMydgtrxjZiBAC

There are plenty of Trap artists giving the genre a bad name right now, thankfully artists such as JaeBoy are here to restore the faith by putting out infectiously experimental and expressive tracks.

The up and coming Texas-based artist put plenty of reverberant bass behind his beats with his debut single “Moonset” which unfolds through a multi-layered construction with plenty of texture between the bass, the rattle and snare of the 808s and the haunting layers of Jazz Hip Hop. But as impressive as the beat is, it is with his vocal ability that JaeBoy takes his single to the next level. After perfecting the art of beatboxing JaeBoy made light work of the verses in Moonset. There’s also a lot to be said about the intellectual, yet playfully engaging lyricism which is on offer in Moonset.

If anyone is wondering how to create a contemporary Hip Hop hit, press play on Moonset and take notes.
