When’s the last time you hit play on a track by a breaking contemporary artist which offered so much Funk you were left with little option but to be instantly enamoured and turn a smile?
If it’s been a while, that must be fairly miserable, but it just so happens that’s the exact reaction we got from Cliff Beach & the MB’s’ latest single “Confident”. It’s no wonder why they’re confident when they exude the same sticky-sweet soul as the likes of James Brown. Even though the single practically drips with vintage allure there’s plenty of authenticities found in the intricately mesmeric instrumental arrangement which is all too easy to get lost in.
