New Rock outfit The Oceans in the Streets have released their first ever single Effective Immediately. If you’ve ever wondered what you’d get if you spliced Billy Talent with Dragonforce, checking out the Oceans in the Streets debut single is one way to get an idea.
The progressively Thrash Rock anthem is driven by the soaring guitar riffs that almost certainly left the guitarist with blisters. The prelude to the track fools you into believing that Effective Immediately will be just your average muddy Rock, nothing can quite prepare you for the tightness of the drum rolls or the complexity in the instrumental breakdowns.
Whilst instrumentally I adored the track, I couldn’t help but feel that the sentimentality of the track was hindered by the lyricism. I’d put it as rule number one that you should never start a track with ‘I’m going to sing a song/and everyone sing along’. With such a playful Punk vocal style, there are so many directions that the Oceans in the Streets could take their sound. I’m still ridiculously excited to hear where the band take their sound next.
