Penelope Pettigrew has unleashed her autobiographical bisexual dance-pop anthem, ‘Straight Until…’

Sydney-based singer-songwriter Penelope Pettigrew has released her autobiographical bisexual anthem, ‘Straight Until…’ the hazily entrancing feat of dance-pop allows the listener to explore their own identity in the presence of a voice that disrupts normative discourse and embraces queer culture.

Through seductively bold lyrics and bass-drenched synths, Penelope Pettigrew’s queer pop track carries some reminiscence to the likes of Peaches, yet, discernibly, there’s far more commercial potential to this radio-ready single. We can’t wait to see the rest of the world waking up to Pettigrew’s nuanced empowering style. Whatever subject she chooses for her lyricism, you know that she will delve deeper than most.

RICKY delivers ethereal futurism in his latest electronica track, ‘Absentee Landlord’

Ahead of his upcoming EP, Nottingham, UK-based artist and producer, RICKY created plenty of appetite for his modernistic, future bass  mixes with the release of his single, Absentee Landlord.

With angsty vocal samples thrown into the complex layers of pulsing indietronica around the future pop female vocals, you can’t help but be endeared by the personality on offer here. Although, you won’t quite be able to pinpoint at which moment your rhythmic pulses became interconnected with the trappy bass-soaked beats and hazy synth-driven melodies.

Before making his solo debut, RICKY was one-half of the electro-punk outfit Battlecat; the duo toured alongside Two Door Cinema Club, Future Islands, Hadouken and plenty more before disbanding due to personal commitments.

With his solo project, Battlecat fans are sure to be appeased, but there’s an inexplicable ingenuity to his recent material that is sure to leave you hooked.

Absentee Landlord is now available to stream via SoundCloud.

Dilemma has released his ensnaring alt-electronica mix, ‘Moments’.

https://soundcloud.com/dilemmaca/moments

Even with EDM being the hardest genre to establish authenticity within, up and coming artist Dilemma discernibly didn’t fail, with his recently released single, ‘Moments’. His intoxicating mash of synth-pop, future bass and disco put you on a sonic trajectory right from the intro; from there on out, it’s a sonic whirlwind of intense hyper emotion.

When you get to the breaks, Dilemma deftly delivers that essential feeling of catharsis when tension erupts into euphoria. With sax solos, glitchy white noise and veraciously ensnaring beats all weaved into the intricately layered and textured mix, all reminiscence to Dilemma is extremely fleeting.

After being involved in an accident that left all five of Dilemma’s senses in a state of hypersensitivity, music allowed Dilemma to find purpose after everything else felt meaningless. The amount of love poured into his releases is practically unparalleled. Moments will make you think twice about delving into releases that offer any less than the exuberant passion that you will find right here.

Moments is now available to stream via SoundCloud.

Past Midnight From Amsterdam Release Dance With Me (feat. SeanDavidMSX)

Past Midnight is the perfect name for a band making such music. As the name suggests their music evokes the early hours of club culture, sitting neatly somewhere between the big, more obvious throwaway dance tunes and the chill-out to follow. It is the sound of dancing on the beach as dawn breaks, the end of the party when you don’t want to head home just yet and the drive back from a quality night out with friends.

This Netherlands pop duo have created a sound which combines accessibility with subtlety, it grooves when it wants to but uses changes of pace and shifting musical dynamics to create a strange and intricate musical journey. If the usual club sound is one of obvious bombast and simple, contagious beats and the chilled after show tune is more about soothing ambience and undefined washes of sound, Past Midnight is the bridge between the two, the vital step between the blast and the bliss and as such are probably the important musical glue which holds an evening together. But like most heroes, unless you draw attention to just how important such an act is, they can often go unnoticed but give it time, I’m sure a lot of people are about to notice them very soon.

Urban Label HQ Familia Announce Release of Debut Compilation ‘HQ Familia Presents… HQF001

For the very first time, record label HQ Familia are releasing a five track compilation ‘HQ Familia presents… HQF001’. A playlist of unique tracks across the East Midlands which represent the culture behind British urban music. Based in Leicester, the diverse individuals pay their dues to the music industry, with a promising attempt to portray the reality of modern day society. Embracing civic heritage, each of the artists showcase flourishing genres including UK Hip Hop, Grime, Garage, Future Bass and R&B. From start to finish, an unfeigned story is told which precipitates a variety of emotions throughout. There is not one sole narrative but a range of multiple perspectives shedding light on the struggles of social validity.

Charlie Georgio kick starts the compilation with a feathery proficiency, featuring Josh Notta in ‘You’. The free flowing melody dabbles between contemporary R&B, electro-pop and hip-hop, whilst enforcing a fairly mellow persona upon the track. Whilst this is one of the tracks that doesn’t necessarily focus on physical meaning, ‘You’ has more emotional depth than anything else. Georgio samples soulful characteristics underneath the spell that captivates him.

With a similar style to Lady Leshurr and Nadia Rose, Asher X takes a parallel stance of female grime by diving straight into a self-confidence heads on narrative, addressing the problems she’s faced with the men in her life. This track is the opposite of sympathising, and praises the strength and courage Asher X reflects as a woman where she exposes the wrong doings of men. Rather than permitting herself into grief, she jumps onto the offensive, making ‘Do One’ a track of total exclusivity.

As the compilation progresses, more genres are experimented. SunSun teams up with Harri Georgio producing a hip-hop and dub-garage style of track. ‘Waste My Time’ evolves into an energised anthem, where the synthesizing drums blur the lines of traditional hip-hop. The fast tempo component that flows freely with the dub resonance is what lifts the track up into a dance classic. And the endowed duo doesn’t just stop there, with lyrics that enforce relatable clarity, they are able to tune in with their audience.

The chemistry between the production of the tracks and the personal depth concealed is eminent, and as we reach a close to the compilation we have experienced new heights of emotions. The final two tracks share a correlation of a softer electro-rnb beat. Maniscooler and Dubdeep test the waters, integrating an electronic pulse with a debonair style of rap and untroubled vocals in the hook.  It’s only natural the tone of the track is delicate, when rendering the crucial aspect of relationships in ‘Boyfriend’. In comparison to BLG’s ‘Which Way To Go’, the tone of the track becomes bleak and cynical. BLG toys with down-tempo electronic blips to enforce a heightened effect, whilst the backdrop surveys a haunting presence throughout the track. The struggle of friendship and brotherhood goes hand in hand with the surreal tone, drawing a different perspective in contrast to its neighbouring tracks of the compilation.

HQ Familia Presents… HQF001 is the first release of many to come from HQ Familia and will be available via all major media providers. More information about each of the artists and any upcoming live dates can be found on their social media pages and information about the label itself can be found on their official website here.
