Matt Jacob has made his spacey psych-rock debut with ‘Chakra Song’.

NYC-hailing singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matt Jacob has released his spacey psych-rock debut single, Chakra Song. Any fans of the Fall will want to take the cosmonautical trip the single invites you to embark.

Matt Jacob has performed throughout NYC alongside some seriously high-profile names, but perhaps most notably, he has performed in hospitals and taught music to girls in a Cambodian orphanage via Zoom; which goes some way in explaining why the soul on offer in the indulgently mellow single feels so sincere.

The meditatively cathartic single is an incredibly promising debut that will no doubt leave the artist on the radars of post-punk and psych-rock fans alike.

Oh No! – Royals’ Dylan De Bono is ‘Feeling S**t Right Now’

‘Maltese singer-songwriter’ isn’t a phrase you get to use all that often as a music reviewer, but when it comes to Dylan De Bono it’s one that we can fully expect to become much more common in 2021 and beyond. As one half of pop duo Royals, Dylan’s no stranger to musical acclaim, but with this – the first single from forthcoming solo album ‘Loose Wire’ – De Bono brings us an absolute belter of an electro-pop banger.

Dark yet humorous, edgy and sexy, with one eye on that perfect pop mix of accessibility and catchiness whilst avoiding cliché or ‘throw-away-ness’ (is that a thing?) and the other on an absolutely spot on understanding of dancefloor groove and pop-radio immediacy (aided, no doubt, by the writing and production collaboration with maestro David Vella), ‘Feeling S**t Right Now’ is a superb melting pot of clubby dance stunner and autobiographical songwriting, a mix of 70’s disco, 80’s club classic, and totally up-to-date electro-pop killer. Prince and Bowie mix with the Pet Shop Boys, Years & Years, and David Guetta here, to produce what may be one of the first ‘spot-on’ pop songs of 2021. The sound of the summertime might have just landed.

If there is an up and coming pop artist worth paying attention to in 2021, it’s Liverpool-born high-vibe alchemist Biz-ARD. His latest single is a stylish funk-filled invitation to shake off the apathy and to ‘step in the vibe’. You’ll be putty in his hands before the first verse runs through.

With choppy guitars akin to the ones in Bowie’s Let’s Dance paired with Biz-ARD’s indie and post-punk tendencies, The Vibe is accessible from the first hit while still unravelling as a brand-new sonic experience. Mostly because you’ve never encountered an artist like Biz-ZARD before.

All in the Nothing – Better This Way: A Debut Any Fans of the Cure Need to Listen To

“Better This Way” is the mesmerising debut single from Indie artist All in the Nothing. Hit play and prepare for a flood of synthy 80s nostalgia complete with a smorgasbord of contemporary appeal.

You’ll find nuances of The Cure, Bowie and The Midnight, but in its essence, Better This Way is an organically expressive single which is all too easy to slip into and appreciate the ingenuity alongside the visceral undiluted romanticism. It’s laden with lovelorn melancholy, but it won’t fail to hit the evocative spot and leave your soul suitably appeased.

We’re already stoked to hear what’s in the pipeline from All in the Nothing, We’d suggest you get them on your radar too.

There will never be another underground UK artist who will blow us away with their versatility the way in which Brighton-based Alternative artist 8udDha bl0od has.

Their aurally chameleonic releases share just a handful of commonalities. If we had to allude to the most tangible, we’d have to pick the kaleidoscopically mellifluous layers of Psych and their tendency to let their creative expression take the lead.

17’ll N3<3r 83 0<3r is one of 8udDha bl0od’s earlier releases which incorporates nuances of Funk and Sleaze Rock, Art Rock and Blues. You’ll pick up influences from Black Sabbath, Radiohead and even Bowie in the progressively magnetic soundscape. I think it’s safe to say that no artist has ever pulled off an influential infusion quite like that before.

Tenderhooks Release Quirky Track ‘Yolena’

What you think Tenderhooks are all about depends on which thread you pick up on first. Pick up on their lyrical content and you will find the same strange characters that Ian Dury or perhaps Madness peopled their songs with, pick up on the back beats and you find a soulful Ray Charles vibe. The weird-pop quirk, which runs through the song, is pure Bowie and the strange New Wave edge is very talking Heads. It is pop heading into rock; quirky rhythm and blues doing a spot of Avant Gardening and the ghost of any number of Bonzo Dog Band members haunt the hidden corners of the song.

Normally journalists have a hard time finding a label for a band because it doesn’t sit that easily in existing genres. Tenderhooks present a different dilemma as they appear to spend some time in almost every genre you can think of and make up a few of their own along the way!
