Do The Jimmy Jimmy, and The Ballad Of Tin Shaker

Beatles-y, Kinks-y, Small Faces-y, harmonious, sixties-mixed-with-nineties, classic indie-influenced pop-rock, ‘The Ballad Of Tin Shaker’ is a glorious, catchy pop song in the absolute best sense of the words.

Hailing from the small town of Claymont in the state of Delaware in the US, Jimmy Jimmy, and his new seven-track album ‘Do The Jimmy Jimmy’, is proper, lasting singer-songwriter americana-influenced pop with a delicious, laid-back hook that worms its way into your head and stays there. Relentlessly. And refuses to leave again.

Try it. Go on. And tell me that you’re not still wanting to be a ‘tin shaker’ by this time tomorrow.

Joolz Jones is set to drop his entrancingly unpredictable genre-mashing hit ‘Lovesick’

Joolz Jones

Irish artist Joolz Jones is set to drop their most cutting single yet. ‘Lovesick’ merges a myriad of genres, from Big Beat to Blues to Pop to Hip Hop but it is the emotional dynamism which hits the hardest. Lovesick was penned and recording during lockdown as an aural ode to the epiphany which happened to many of us simultaneously. During our isolated months, we had the perfect opportunity to find perspective and realise what truly matters in life, Lovesick poignantly captures the torrid emotions which can manifest when we’re transfixed by desire which is fresh from its inception.

The evocative weight of the single is only matched by the intensity of the bass which creates a solid structure for Joolz Jones to experiment within. By mixing acoustic instruments with electronic effect, the instrumentals run through with no reminiscence to any artist, preceding or current.

Undoubtedly, Lovesick is one of the most entrancingly unpredictable tracks we’ve heard this year. There isn’t a chance this release will fall flat. You’ll get to hear the track for yourselves from December 10th.

Nathan Fox sends a siren call with their intoxicatingly bluesy Alt Pop single “Trouble”

Nathan Fox

If we still believed that exceptional artists sold their soul to the devil in exchange for their talent, we’d be making that very same accusation about up and coming singer-songwriter and instrumentalist Nathan Fox.

Trouble” is their forthcoming intoxicating feat of Alt-Pop which puts Alex Turner’s attempt to be bluesy and cool to shame.

The atmospheric alchemy which comes from the collision between the funk-led arrangement and Nathan Fox’s harmonically raspy vocals is unparalleled from anything else I’ve heard before. I’m pretty sure it will be the same for anyone else that hits play on this trailblazingly ingenious record.

Trouble will be available to stream via all major streaming platforms from October 9th. In the meantime, you can check out their former tracks on their website and keep up to date with news of the release via Facebook.

The Meta4 Revue – Maltese: An Entrancingly Stylistic Infusion of Blues, Art Pop and Electronica

NYC has spawned an innumerable number of sensational artists, another act which can be added to that list is the smoother than smooth up and coming Electronic Blues Pop act The Meta4 Revue.

May 2020 saw the virtuosos of stylistic soul drop their debut album “Magnum Opera”, the perfect introduction to their ambiently entrancing funk-soaked style is undoubtedly “Maltese”. It doesn’t take long for the magnetic grooves to pull you into the Bluesy feat of Electronically crafted Art Pop which you’ll undoubtedly want to give repeat attention.

I never thought I’d see the day where I’d get to hear an artist offering more sensual evocativeness than Cigarettes After Sex, but here we are.

Alexandra Ayoob – Something’s Missing: Soulfully Sensual Alt Pop

Alexandra Ayoob

Rising Indie Pop act Alexandra Ayoob has unleashed an alluring earworm onto the airwaves with her darkly atmospheric debut hit “Something’s Missing”.

If you could imagine what a Hozier, Bjork and Billie Eilish mash-up would sound like, you’ll have a good idea of the kind of aural alchemy which Something’s Missing will throw your way.

Similarities aside, the almost overwhelmingly resounding distinction found in Something’s Missing. Through the style, performance and passion, Alexandra Ayoob set herself from any other artist around in 2020. She’s definitely one for the radar, no other artist parallels her ability to ooze sensuality and soul simultaneously.

Something’s Missing is due for release on October 3rd. You can pre-save or pre-purchase the track via this link.

Travie Austin – “Black and Blues”: The ‘Classy and accomplished’ new album released this week.

Hailing from the Southside of Chicago with its history of steel mills and factories, singer/songwriter Travie Austin follows up 2019’s ‘Scrapbook’ with ‘Black and Blues’, nine tracks and 32 minutes of laid-back blues-inspired bops.

Like his hometown, “Black and Blues” is a melting-pot of influences. Infectious, soulful, and downright funky at times, Austin crosses genres with ease; as the title suggests, there’s a definite bluesy feel across the album, but this is interspersed with some tasty fusion piano breaks a la Brad Mehldau or Austin’s inspiration John Legend, and the Gary Clarke Jr. and Julian Lage-influenced guitar lines peppered between the electronic beats and breaks.

Austin showcases his versatility with some heavier riffage on ‘I Earned It’ and the Rodgers-style syncopation across ‘Funk Take Over’ and album closer ‘Final Get Down’.  Overall, “Black and Blues” is classy and accomplished, uplifting and funky; you can hear the album on Spotify and check out Travie on his official website.

Leo Howse – A (nother F*cking) Heartfelt Love Song Featuring Suzi Jodie.

https://soundcloud.com/leo-howse-984550612/another-fucking-heartfelt-love-song-feat-suzi-jodie/s-C9F80swjBiZ

When love songs are as inventively titled as Leo Howse’s latest single “A (nother Fucking) Heartfelt Love Song” featuring Suzi Jodie, we were always going to pay attention.

From the first hint of sardonic wit in Leo Howse’s playfully bitter-sweet Indie Folk Pop single we instantly warmed to their sarcastic style which was perfectly complemented by Suzi Jodie’s ardently accordant vocals.

Anyone who appreciated the Fratellis’  off the cuff songwriting style will definitely want this melodic psychedelically-infused feat of Pop in their ears.

We can’t wait to hear what comes from the up and coming eccentric artist. Maybe, by the date of the next release, the earworm which this single left us with may have wriggled out.

Pop, Blues, and Neo-Soul seamlessly converge in Mama Yaya’s sultrily sublime latest single “Devil”

If there’s any Alt Pop artist we’re stoked to hear more from this year, it’s the sultrily sublime newcomer Mama Yaya.

Her fans were treated to yet another infectiously Funk-riddled hit with the release of her single “Devil” which dropped on May 29th. In Devil, grooving Neo-Soul meets roots-deep Blues Rock and Pop. Despite the levels of distinction which are impossible to miss, Devil is an incredibly accessible radio-ready hit which stays with you long after the track has faded to a close.

The driving snappy beats paired with bendy basslines and bluesy guitar licks form the perfect platform for the bewitching vocal style which consistently evolves through the dynamic earworm.

Spoken Word Poetry and Blues Pop Combine in Dom Reynolds’ Latest Single “Jealousy”

https://soundcloud.com/sion-dom-reynolds/jealousy

After an absorbing spoken-word prelude, Dom Reynolds’ latest single “Jealousy” kicks off as a cathartically indulgent Blues Pop soundscape which will enamour fans of John Cooper Clarke and RnB Soul alike.

That may be a slightly unexpected pairing of styles. Yet Dom Reynolds’ experimental Funk-addled style is all the more captivating for the fact that he’s aurally ripped up the rulebook.

Charlotte Neal’s strong, yet smooth harmonic vocals work alongside the deadpan spoken-word delivery throughout the track. Which not only creates a potent amount of collaborative chemistry but also ensures that the lyrics resonate with maximum impact.

The ambient slow jam comes with a nuanced infusion of Psych. When Jealousy is in full flow, you’ll be suitably mesmerised by the colourfully warm tones.

Josh Rosenblum Band – Hangin’ On: Vivaciously Virtuosic Blues Pop

I’ve been hooked on Josh Rosenblum’s nuanced euphoria-inducing Blues guitar style ever since hearing their standout single “Stormy” from their sensational 2018 album “Outlier”.

Their elevated, punchy, porously passionate Funk-soaked Blues Pop offers an unparalleled amount of energy which sugars the airwaves, making it practically impossible to feel bitter when you’re ingesting it. It also helps that their ability to craft infectiously happy melodies is practically arcane.

As someone who finds themselves predominantly drawn to music on the more pensive side through fear of encountering vacuously plasticised feel-good tracks, I’ve even surprised myself with how much adoration I have for their latest single “Hangin’ On”.

The raw human emotion projected into the single wasn’t hindered by the phenomenal production which ensured that Hangin’ On would become a radio-ready hit. It simply amplified the resonance which pours from the track which boasts an insane amount of commercial appeal. I’m fairly adamant there never has, and never will be Blues Pop riffs on the airwaves which share a stark reminiscence to Josh Rosenblum’s. His ability to humbly demonstrate his virtuosic prowess at the same time as creating such accessible music is tragically rare, but the shortfall has more than been made up for through Hangin’ On.

After signing with Pacific Records, we’re fairly convinced that massive things are in store for the Josh Rosenblum Band in 2020.

You can check out Hangin’ On which was released on February 7th along with all of the artist’s earlier releases via Spotify.
