Edword Evwrit wants to talk to us ‘Right Now’

Hailing from the Bay Area, California, Edword Evwrit is a solo hip hop artist, as well as a member of both Liquor Mouth and Lunaclick; ‘Right Now’ then is a delicious slab of old-school hip hop, funky and grooving, with a deep, deep pounding bass and a pretty little closed hi-hat pattern keeping everything ticking. At times it’s reminiscent of De La Soul, at others that questioning call-and-response rap style that Eminem does so, so well. There’s moments of ‘The Real Slim Shady’ here, mixed with little bits of ‘Three Feet High and Rising’ and Cube’s ‘Today Was A Good Day’.

Evwrit’s got some gorgeous flow, little double-rhymed couplets, some of the syllables cut up and spat bullet-like, others drawn out and rhythmic, with multiple rhyme patterns and a cute little semi-psychedelic drop at around the two-minute mark making ‘Right Now’ a cut above the average modern hip hop release; Evwrit’s rhyme patterns and intelligent wordplay, coupled with cracking backdrop instrumentation and arrangement, make this a stand-out track. You should check it out. Right now.

Get on the grind of Swim’s high-vibe hustler hip hop track, ‘90s Baby’.

Up and coming artist Swim has been making waves in the New York hip hop scene with their organically high vibe tracks; after dropping his official debut single, ‘90s Baby, he is set to stake a permeant claim.

The energy brought to ‘90s Baby is instantly infectious; you’ll be hooked right into the gritty hustler hip hop track where Swim wasn’t afraid to let his true colours shine through in the kaleidoscopically bright production. The trippy grinding mix almost lulls you into a hypnotic state as you start to appreciate the ease of the flow, the playful wit in the lyrics and the magnetism in Swim’s effortless charisma

‘90s Baby is available to stream via Spotify.

Canadian trailblazer SVLM offers a high-vibe Hip Hop playlist staple with ‘Six Speed’

SVLM has already taken the Canadian Hip Hop scene by storm, after the release of their latest track, Six Speed, he’s about to tempestuously dominate international airwaves.

The high-vibe grooves paired with their charismatically-energetic personality made an earworm out of Six Speed, which is anything but mechanical despite the romantically meta automotive focus of the track.

Their ability to infuse their endearing personality in the music video made it impossible not to warm to SVLM. Their commercial potential is undeniable. Don’t just watch this space, get behind one of the most eccentrically magnetic artists dropping tracks in 2020.

You can check out the cinematic official music video which dropped on October 30th for yourselves by heading over to YouTube.

Topnotch is set to drop their adrenalizing feat of Pop Hip Hop “Who We Are”

https://soundcloud.com/oneandonlytopnotch

We were lucky enough to get a sneak peek of breaking Hip Hop artist Topnotch’s electrifying upcoming release “Who We Are”. As far as we’re concerned, he’s set the bar for Summer 2020 Hip Hop releases with the phenomenal drop.

So, if you’ve ingested enough lacklustre Rap to last a lifetime, prepare for the adrenalizing grooves in this high-vibe mix. The lyrics may address grounding issues, but the 90s Hip Hop Pop beats take Who We Are beyond the realms of Party Hip Hop and allowed Topnotch to cook up an unforgettable anthemic earworm. If any new release deserves to go viral this year, it’s Who We Are.

Who We Are is due to drop in August, you’ll be able to catch it on all streaming platforms including SoundCloud, in the meantime, you can check out Topnotch’s equally as energetic hits.

Platune has dropped their fiery flawless Rap hit “The Assassin”

Philadelphia-based Rap artist Platune has just dropped their debut EP “Enter the Cave” featuring the colossal track “The Assassin”. Any fans of Wu-Tang Clan are going to want to hear the flawlessly fiery release.

Everything is on point in the Assassin. The way Platune’s snappy Rap bars collide against the smooth grind of the Old School instrumentals, the atmospheric layers which pull you deeper into the beguiling mix and the laceratingly sharp lyrics which offer a straight-up attack on the ludicrous state of our society.

By starting off with a sample affirming that all is vanity and illusion, the unfaltering tone for the track is set and it sticks until the dark, eerie, convictive track fades to a close. I honestly can’t remember the last time I heard so much visceral conviction in any track. Platune is exactly the kind of Rap artist we need on the airwaves right now.

Erol Sabadosh has dropped their smoothest Hip Hop Earworm Yet with “Staring at the Sun”

For their latest tension-stripping feat of Jazz-layered downtempo Hip Hop “Staring at the Sun”, Erol Sabadosh teamed up with Ron Wayne to create an unforgettably cathartic playlist staple.

Through steady beats, soothing blasts of sax and the magnetically immersive Rap verses which will take you right back to the time when the Fresh Prince was king, listening to Staring at the Sun isn’t something that can be done half-heartedly.

If it weren’t for the deep grooves and lashings of Funk, Staring at the Sun would fall on the more ambient side of Hip Hop, but there’s plenty of energy to leave you feeling adrenalized from the moment you hit play.

You can check out the official lyric video to Staring at the Sun which dropped on May 9th for yourselves via YouTube.

DonnieCoupe has put their own spin on Old School Hip Hop with their single “Tomorrow”

DonnieCoupe’s playfully experimental approach to Old School Hip Hop in their recently released single “Tomorrow” is as refreshing as it is unforgettable.

Tomorrow kicks off with a unique take on Alicia Morton’s iconic track Tomorrow before progressing into a solid downtempo Jam with steady beats and an infusion of Jazz to amplify warmth of the mix.

While none of our tomorrow’s are going to be quite as lit or exciting as the hedonism which is contained in DonnieCoupe’s track for quite a while, it’s still a resolving track to sink into and soak up the soul.

Yet, DonnieCoupe does use his lyrical wit to serve a stark reminder that we’re never guaranteed today or tomorrow. Even in the midst of a pandemic that’s easy to forget. So, mortality reaffirming tracks which celebrate life such as this one will always be necessary on the airwaves and our playlists.

Don C – Living Alright featuring $togie Bryant

Living Alright is the oceanically hazy second single to be released from up and coming Hip Hop artist Don C which follows on from his debut single Life. He may have dropped the tempo in his second single, but the amount of soul and energy remains as a constant between the two releases.

Only after hearing the fresh new take on old school Hip Hop, did I realise how few humbly reflective Rap tracks are on the airwaves. The gratified introspective which is laid down in Living Alright is essential on the airwaves right now.

As the Rap bars run through the resonant lyrics, the Jazz-soaked warm, smooth beats create an ambient flow to give Living Alright a sunny cathartic feel. By bringing $togie Bryant in on the mix, Don C created a well-rounded mix which fans of contemporary Hip Hop and Old School alike will appreciate.

Sed’Trieaun’s Latest Track “L.S” is a Refreshing Break Away from the Monotony of Monocultural Hip Hop

Sed’Trieaun

Up and coming Hip Hop artists who offer accessibility and experimentalism in the same infectiously fresh mix aren’t discovered every day. Which is why we should be boundlessly grateful for the latest single “L.S.” from Sed’Trieaun.

Sed’Trieaun teamed up with J-Link to create a high-energy Jazz-infused track which will undoubtedly appeal to artists such as Jay Z, Drake, Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar.

Similarities aside, the multicultural drop breaks away from the monotony of Western Hip Hop and allows Sed’Trieaun to offer a distinctive hook-filled viscerally vibrant track. The sound of Sed’Trieaun stamping down their signature style is perceptible in every progression in L.S. It’s a rare release which will unite fans of Old School and Contemporary Hip Hop alike.
