Spotlight Feature: Ducktail’s fiery feat of anthemic electro-soul, Over, ft Kristal Oliver, Bursts with riotous, almost punk energy: try telling us this isn’t the debut of the year

With a Wall Street career in the rear-view mirror, the electro luminary in the making, Ducktail, ensured the world knew about his arrival in the Future Bass scene by dropping his debut single, Over. If it’s good enough for Pete Tong, the multi-layered leads driving through pop-hooked groove-pocketed basslines are worthy enough for your rhythmic pulses.

The New York-based artist and producer teamed up with the Grammy-nominated platinum artist Kristal Oliver, who exhilarated the release with her award-winning vocal lines before the anthem for a lost and now found cause was mixed and mastered by none other than Gosteffects.

Ducktail and Kristal Oliver converged to create an unreckonable force with this fiery feat of anthemic electro-soul. With choruses that burst with riotous, almost punk, energy and ever-ascending verses, which will leave you on a new spiritual plateau, just try telling me this isn’t the debut of the year.

As change is the only inevitability in life, Ducktail prepared us for it with Over, by illustrating that freedom to step into the infinite possibilities of the unknown is something that we should forego complacency and stagnation for.

DJ CoolRex grooved through the depths of desire in his tech-house debut, I Want

After the debut single, I Want, from DJ CoolRex, it is safe to say tech-house has a new iconic architect. While encompassing the epitome of desire, the techno kicks and basslines punctuate the soul-soaked house synthetics to create an authentically immersive atmosphere that electro heads will want to drench themselves in time and time again.

His future-ready flair, noted through the bass-drenched deep cuts, effortlessly set him apart from his contemporaries and the tech-house pioneers Laurent Garnier and Carl Cox. DJ CoolRex may be new to the scene, but on the basis of this deliciously strong debut, the Ohio-born and raised innovator has exactly what it takes to make his ascent from the underground an ephemeral trip.

Jody Lynn transcended Earth’s orbit to celebrate a cosmic connection in her latest dance-pop hit, Lost in Love

Lost in Love is the latest ethereally hyper dance pop track from the US artist Jody Lynn, who is in the habit of giving her ear candy, which is sweet enough to give you a euphoric sugar rush, a lyrical centre of gravity.

The trance elements are just one stitch in the tapestry of the massive genre-melding production, which transcends Earth’s orbit to pay an ode to an out-of-this-world cosmic connection. The indietronica elements give the massive anthem another element, allowing Lost in Love to become a sonic piece of ephemera from the fifth dimension.

Very few amorously fervent dance hits can claim to contain the same all-encompassing sense of soul exhibited in this future-ready floor-filler. Dance and EDM may be Jody Lynn’s wheelhouse, but in terms of inspiration, Prince’s tendency to push boundaries in his prolific career is the greatest influence behind her singles.

Erick Diaz has launched his seduction-drenched house anthem, Into Me

You can practically taste the ecstasy in the air of the latest single, Into Me, from the artist, poet, author, and music philosopher Erick Diaz.

His definitively distinctive take on house anthems enabled the single released via NOS to unravel as a progressively steamy anthem of debauchery that any producer would be hard-pressed to assimilate. The massive sound resounds around the ingenuity written into every inexplicitly deft drop and build.

The harsh kicks, bass-swathed beats, and monolithic drops all become that little bit more salaciously transcendent through the reprising whispers that drench the dance hit with seduction. I’ve never written this in a music review before, but he’s a massive tease.

Avicii meets Depeche Mode in Policy’s latest genre-mash, I’d Wait for You ft Sergi Yaro

Policy

The award-winning genre-melding producer, Policy, is back on the airwaves following the successful launch of his debut LP, Echo Chambers, in 2020 and the sophomore album, The Abby Rose, in 2022. This time, the Ohio-based beat master collaborated with the Ukrainian singer-songwriter Sergi Yaro to awaken sentimental senses with I’d Wait for You.

The falsetto vocal lines against the dark, droning and dancey synths and harbingering percussive beats, which slam to sonically attest to how dark the waters of a loveless reality can be, is an alchemic combination, which won’t fail to drag you into the murky core of this experimental hit which could win over mainstream electronica fans and alt-electro heads alike. Instrumentally, if you found the middle ground between Depeche Mode and Avicii, you’d find I’d Wait for You resoundfully residing there.

TARISH blew the roof off house music with ‘blurry’

The Iraq-born, Sweden-hailing songwriter and producer, TARISH, blew the roof off the house genre with his stormer of a floor-filler, blurry.

With similar uninhibitedly high-energy to the hit, Filthy/Gorgeous by Scissor Sisters, read through the funky bass-dripping beats and the galvanizingly high vocal notes, blurry is an adrenaline-fuelled slice of euphoria which stores an endless supply of dopamine.

TARISH also audibly wears his Swedish House Mafia influence on his music producer sleeve, but never to the detriment of the originality of his resounding sound, which is currently criminally underrated. If you enjoy discovering underground artists before they break onto the mainstream, your time is running out to discover the electrifying visionary before everyone else.

Supa G Swift has launched his dark, dirty, and droning techno debut, Take You to Attica

Take You to Attica is the debut dark, dirty and droning tech house hit from the up-and-coming artist Supa G Swift. Taking their listeners far beyond earth’s banal and predictable atmosphere, this helter-skelter ride through the cosmos treats you to funked-up surging electro-electricity by the smorgasbord.

The Cork, Ireland-based artist, DJ, and producer initially set out to take over the hip-hop scene in Cork before entering DJ battles in Ireland and relocating to Canada, where he became one of the most notorious and revered DJs in Vancouver.

For the past seven years, his upcoming debut album, Enter Infinity, has been his labour of love; it promises to be a psychologically expansive high-energy ride. On the basis of Take You to Attica, we don’t doubt his ability to deliver exhilaratingly trippy hits that could lead to a dancefloor frenzy.

Dehko – Slide ft. Snap Dogg: EDM Rap Has Never Hit Harder

The Detroit EDM duo, Dehko, is an unreckonable force after the drop of their anthemically arresting album, Tektroit. Dehko isn’t just hot on the heels of Tiesto, Skrillex, Garrix, Kygo, and Don Diablo, the brother duo has scorched right past them with his galvanisngly ground-razing epic of an LP.

The standout single, Slide, featuring the rap legend in his own right, Snap Dogg, is the sonic equivalent of an adrenalin shot to the heart. After a steady and almost sultry build, the bass-drenched beats catapult you through the hard and heavy progressions while Snap Dogg lends his dominantly gruff vocal energy to create a juggernaut of an EDM Rap hit.

From the absorbingly tensile breaks and builds to the crystal-clear cut of the production to the emotion the hit compels you to feel, Dehko & Snap Dogg reached the definitive pinnacle of EDM Rap. It would be idiotic to try and top it.

Parisian electro-pop icon Andrea Dee lit an alchemically emboldened fire under her single, Be Her

If you can imagine what it would sound like if Breach and Bjork collaborated on a record, you can get an idea of the fiery aural alchemy contained in the latest electro-pop hit, Be Her, from the trailblazingly magnetic songwriter and producer Andrea Dee.

The single, co-produced by Aaron Knight, is slick with unfuckwithable attitude that Andrea Dee pulls off flawlessly. The unapologetic celebration of her own autonomy becomes as infectious and addictive as the lyrical hook that reprises through the stormer of an earworm, “It’s music that makes me be her”. I can totally relate.

With the bi-lingual lyrics bringing euro dance flavour to the mix that also found room for indie funk guitar licks, the Parisian singer-songwriter affirmed that she’s got a place in the industry – and it is way above the underground.
