Jimmy G. $hi takes it slow in his RnB single, Drown Tonight

Give your RnB playlists a fresh soul fix by introducing it to the lead single, Drown Tonight, from Jimmy G. $hi’s 2022 album, P.T.H.B.

After warm saturated tones have eased you into the smooth contemporary track that unfurls around hip hop percussion and spacey electronica synthetics, Jimmy G. $hi goes in heavy with the sultry romanticism. The affectionately demure energy resonates through the lyrics as much as the steady vocals that affirm the message of the single; pace is the trick.

With the stellar production, the mellifluous soul that spills from the vocals and the evocative heights that Drown Tonight takes you to, the up-and-coming artist can definitively be seen as a triple threat.

The official music video for Drown Tonight was released on July 22nd. Check it out for yourselves via YouTube.

Dream in the existential poetry of Vukovar’s meeting of death pop and post-punk, ‘Place to Rest’

Taken from their critically acclaimed album, The Body Abdicator, Vukovar’s standout single, Place to Rest, is a neo-gothic dream. Laden with poetry, “death becomes the absence of the self/ it’s all in the mind”, shoegazey reverb, and strident Jack Ladder-Esque electronic percussion to feed energy into the expressive ennui of the darkened synth-pop track.

In their own words, their 2022 LP is a ‘metaphysical and esoteric wasteland disguised as a pop album’. If the IQ of an artist got them to the top of the charts, Vukovar would be unstoppable in their ascent. Anyone with an affinity for existential philosophy, Echo and the Bunnymen, House of Love and The Chameleons won’t want to let this luminously talented act slip them by. One hit and the swoon-worthy single will affably haunt you for a lifetime.

Get it on with Zight’s latest EDM hit, Work it Harder, featuring Chris Willis & Maximals

Since the official music video to Zight’s latest single, Work It Harder, premiered on July 1st on YouTube, it has racked up over 200k streams, and traction continues to amass around the track featuring Chris Willis, whose previous collaborations include EDM icons, such as David Guetta.

Either I’ve had too much exposure to Ru Paul’s You Better Work, or the upbeat motivational EDM track carries ample reminiscence to the glamorously upraising signature flair of the self-declared supermodel of the world. If you’re falling short of dopamine, Work It Harder will give you an ample fix. For you own sake, hit play.

Ember Rev has unveiled their grungy art-rock shanty, Dives & Lazarus

The synthy, innocent playfulness of Grandaddy meets the indie country twang of Modest Mouse in the latest spacey feat of experimentalism from Ember Rev, Dives & Lazarus.

After the synthesised shanty vibes, towards the outro, the Alt 90s Seattle sound seeps into the kaleidoscopic off-kilter production that also starts to pick up reminiscences to Queens of the Stone Age. Similarities to iconic sonic palettes aside Ember Rev is evidently a trailblazer in their own right.

With their new album, Isophilia, due to be released in July, it is well worth saving a spot for the self-proclaimed “nervous and neurotic accordion-driven” art-rock UK-hailing outfit. I knew there was a reason why the obscurity of Dives & Lazarus was so enamouring in its resonance.

Asher Musgrave brought us into a post-punk season with, SummerBelle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgAKuIiNDeQ

Tampa’s boldest goth rock revivalist, Asher Musgrave, has continued in his endeavour to bring the obscure chill of post-punk & darkwave back into the atmosphere with his latest single, SummerBelle.

The up-and-coming songwriter, musician and producer ensued the experimentalism with a Sisters of Mercy-Esque intro, complete with post-punk crooning. Before breaking into an ensnaring dark amalgamation of burning synths, over-driven guitars and vocals which throw you back to the time when Marilyn Manson was known for Fight Song instead of his questionable antics.

Notably, he’s already on the right track to bring goth rock back into mainstream view. With a little production improvement, he has exactly what it takes.

Emma Hunter contested the heteronormative hegemony in her latest single, Love is Not a Choice

With the hypnotic grace of medieval mystic, Oxford’s Emma Hunter demonstrated that there’s nothing unnaturalistic about deviating from the heteronormative hegemony with her latest single, Love is Not a Choice.

Queerness may seem like a modern phenomenon, especially in the vision of those desperate to stand on the neck of progression, equality, and acceptance. Yet, even the most bigoted view is bound to widen to the tune of Hunter’s signature flamenco guitar loops, art-rock percussion and arcane vocal layering.

The musicality that takes you on an intercontinental sonic trip runs at the same celestial level as the intrinsic sense of spirituality in the rhythmically arrestive production. Which once again sees Emma Hunter resisting the contemporary constraints of genre.

The official video for Love is Not a Choice, directed by Matt Trevor-Roper, premiered on July 8th. Check it out via YouTube.

Anjalts – On Your Side: Provocatively Sensual Art-Pop

While everyone is jumping on the Kate Bush hype, it isn’t a far hop across to the up-and-coming art-pop singer-songwriter and producer, Anjalts’ latest sensually provocative single, On Your Side.

The minor keys in accord under the 80s-Esque production wrapped in haunting reverb create the perfect atmosphere for Anjalts’ translucently lucid vocals to bleed into. It is a full-on sensory experience that naturally words alone can’t capture. On Your Way leaves no room to wonder why it is on its way to going viral. We can’t wait to hear the alchemy that undoubtedly lingers in the LP that is set to follow On Your Way.

On Your Side is now available to stream on YouTube. And you can check out Anjalts via her official website.

Country and Roots Originators, Few Miles South, Delivered a Pick-Up Truck of Wholesome with Their Latest Single, Doggone

The country and roots collective, Few Miles South, may have been dubbed the ‘Country Pretenders’, but their latest single and music video, Doggone, set them apart as distinguished escapist originators.

I haven’t been as endeared by Bluegrass Americana since wandering into a festival tent and discovering Hayseed Dixie in a cider-addled haze. Yet, despite the pickup truckload of heckin’ wholesome, Doggone was never in any danger of registering as a novelty.

There’s some serious gravitas in this ode to one of the best fuzzy 4-legged aspects of our existence. Toni’s timelessly arrestive vocals against the punchy rhythms, blazing acoustic guitar solos, and the striking fiddle are an alchemic mix.

Doggone will officially release on May 13th; you can check out the official music video by heading over to YouTube.

A1 Ali has delivered yet another flawlessly evocative fusion track with ‘Mia’

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMVGRkc7y1E

A1 Ali is fresh from the release of yet another flawlessly evocative fusion track that melds hip hop, RnB, pop and Latin to bring authentic world music vibes along with an earwormy structure that almost demands that you give the sun-kissed track repeat attention.

The Bahamas born artist poured plenty of timeless soul into the rhythmically exotic track, which comes with an intimate indie feel, thanks to the production that leaves the raw elements incredibly visceral as the lyrics that flit between salacious lust and old school romanticism.

The Bahamas-born artist spent some time in Santiago de Cuba before perusing his goal of becoming a global sensation. Based on Mia, we’d say he is well on his way to reaching the heights he’s aiming for.

Zight – Number One featuring Adam Christopher: Euphoria-Fuelled EDM

Zight’s latest progressive house hit & music video featuring Adam Christopher has already racked up in excess of 155k streams since the premiere on March 24th. The F1 Championship may not seem the most likely inspiration for a vibey summer EDM hit. But the Hong Kong-born, London based producer succeeded in fusing his love for music and F1 in the single, which is just as panoramic and palpably euphoria-driven as the professionally shot video.

Even with the inspiration behind the single, there’s just enough ambiguity in the lyrics to transform Number One into your ultimate summer EDM playlist staple. It’s all but impossible to tire of the effortlessly radiant energy in Number One. Naturally, we can’t wait to hear what comes next.
