San Diego act Soul Flow reach the right notes with ”Survive”

Hip Hop soul is such a genuine type of music as it has all the right ingredients. Smooth bass lines, followed by soothing vocals that are of such a high standard. San Diego’s Soul Flow warm our hearts and for almost 3 minutes, helping us forget about all the hate and divide that we see on TV currently.

Just staying alive and going through stormy climates in order to get the promised land is the message here. ”Survive” is the new single for this upcoming band and it’s orchestrated to such effect to heal us all.

Soul Flow’‘ take us on a flight of survival and show you their pain while jazzing it up with a world class sound from the whole band. Trying to find that peace of mind is such a tough journey but we can do it, if we all work together. This is a fairly new band but they clearly enjoy playing together and they must be a pleasure to see live in he face. The song is simple, yet comes off genuine and effective. This is the start of an exciting chapter and we are along for the soul ride.

Raw Indie-Rock with San Diego band Happy K-O ‘s ‘’Alarm Clock’’ single

Based in San Diego, California, Happy K-O are just that. A happy band who just want to play live and jam out to an appreciative crowd. Their grungy style is a treat to listen to as it’s so raw. I imagine their live shows to be a packed, small and intimate club experience with real music fans. Sounds like a perfect night out to me.

Formally of Colorado Springs, Colorado, this 2 Piece band is slowly getting more music out and let’s hope they can catch that big break and get noticed by the masses. This is a fun band to listen to and hopefully they can go on tour soon.

Happy K-O will appeal to punk rock fans and it will be interesting to see how they mature. Turn them up and skate away.

Headphone release speaker-knocking new track ‘Something Like A Love Song’

San Diego based indie-rockers Headphone have released new single ‘Something Like A Love Song’.

The alternative three-piece’s latest track is a fun, powerful and poppy ride. A sparkly, keyed intro sets a hopeful pace and tone for frontman Morgan McRae to hook you in with a chorus that doesn’t seem too overwritten or overdrone in its enjoyability. The track’s self-awareness takes you to a fun place and shows a lot of the hallmarks of what this kind of indie-anthem needs to really grab a listener, and It does it well.

‘Something Like A Love Song’ shows the band’s strong sensibilities in writing upbeat, danceable pop that feels contemporary but without any dragging pretense. There’s little to not like here for fans of, and it’s well worth checking out if danceable indie pop – with a splash of 80s style melancholia – is your thing,

You can listen to Headphone’s ‘Something Like A Love Song’ on their Spotiffy page here.

Check Out Chris Avetta’s Haunting Indie-Folk Track “Sway”

Chris Avetta is a singer and songwriter with a passion for haunting indie-folk melodies. Her recent track, Sway, makes me think of artists such as Fleet Foxes or First Aid Kit, just to mention a few. Her sound is versatile, direct and forward-thinking, often showcasing a really unique personality and an ability to create outstanding arrangements starting from the sheer simplicity of the core elements in a song.

Sway is a perfect example of that: the arrangement is relatively sparse, but there are many incredible production characteristics that really add space and texture to the mix. For instance, the stunning reverb tones really do a great job at adding textures and depth to the track.

A&R Factory Present: Ross Nicol

Hailing from San Diego, multi-talented musician Ross Nicol has been actively at work in Nashville this past year. A classically-trained guitarist who began writing music at 14, Nicol has created a musical style that solidifies his place in the alternative spectrum.

Inspired by the creative story-telling and musical arrangements of Radiohead and Vampire Weekend, while drawing influence from David Bowie and The Beatles, Nicol fuses the analog sounds of the past with a modern, alternative twist. Under the guidance and label imprint of producer Jason Hill (Louis XIV, The Killers), Nicol has two huge releases planned for the year: an EP due for the end of May and a full-length album set for later this summer.

He is in good company, working with the creative minds behind Alabama Shakes, MGMT and Of Montreal, so we are confident this will be a successful summer for the new artist.
