Cloverchild brings in the future of Funk with “Down Deep”

Chicago-based Indie artist Cloverchild blessed the airwaves with lashings of futuristic Funk with the release of their album Fool’s Paradise which dropped October 2nd.

Hit play and immerse yourself in a high-vibe medley of Disco tones, playful electronica and Rock-inclined rhythmic prowess. The perfect introduction to their charismatically compassionate approach to Indie is “Down Deep”. If you could imagine what it would sound like if you came across John Grant on a good day, you’ll get an idea of the groovy soulful appeal which Down Deep has to offer.

Baby Jesus Paper Boy – Expensive Dance Music: A Sonically Eccentric Alt Rock Debut

By day, Chicago-based artist Baby Jesus Paper Boy is a public school music teacher, by night, he’s a multi-instrumentalist and Alt Rock alchemist.

Expensive Dance Music is their debut single which dropped in October 2020. It’s an incredible testament to their expressive, energetic style which allowed the track to resonate as playful. But that’s not to say that there isn’t plenty of maturity in the sonically arrestive debut.

It’s jangly, it’s funky, it’s practically Post Punk on ecstasy and the sax solos will leave your mind feeling like microwave soup. There’s plenty going on in the quite literally electrifying soundscape, but Baby Jesus Paper Boy pulls it all together with all too efficacious structuring, and, of course, the serious amount of soul brought to the table with their vocals.

We definitely won’t be making him do lines for this debut.

Jake George cooked up kaleidoscopically-sweet Funk in their Psych Rock single “In the Rain”

Australian singer-songwriter Jake George has cooked up a Funk-soaked psychedelic storm with their latest bass-led autumnally-apt single “In the Rain”.

Melt into the smooth sultry grooves and fall a little bit in love with Jake George’s equally as provocative vocals which project into the kaleidoscopically effect-laden soundscape.

In the Rain sweeps across the full tonal palette, giving the instrumental arrangement plenty of depth, but you won’t be able to tear your consciousness away from the warm, steady reverberation which comes in the form of a throbbing bassline.

Prepare for your soul to ascend with Zach Robinson’s ardently eclectic single “Change”

With Zach Robinson’s aural inspirations ranging from Rush to The Police to Red Hot Chilli Peppers to Billy Joel, you’ll get a serious hit of soulful nostalgia when you hit play on their standout single “Change” on their 2020 EP “Evolve”.

It kicks off with smooth seductive popping grooves before the Alt Rock elements start to dominate the soundscape and replace the funky ska rhythms with ardent licks of Rock which add an overwhelming amount of intensity to the track.

Change is a stunning release. The energy. The urgency. The passion. The talent. Each aspect combines to leave you feeling like your own soul has transcended when you get to the outro of this inherently stylistic mix.

ali3ns – In between: Enigmatic Alt Rock Aural Alchemy

Up and coming Alt Rock trailblazers ali3ns packed some serious charisma into their debut EP “Second Coming”. The perfect introduction to their enigmatic aural alchemy has to be the funky, bluesy track “In between”.

In between explores the full tonal palette with ease, sweeping across Old School blues licks before venturing over to cold Post Punk tones with plenty of funky melodious ingenuity for good measure. One thing which remains as a constant is the up-vibe intoxicatingly magnetic vocals which pour good vibes all over the experimental feat of Alt Rock.

It’s the kind of track you’d need a significant brain injury to forget. I feel like this exactly what Robert Smith would sound like if he took some happy pills and found an affinity for Funk.

Alt RnB artist John Garrison has made their debut with the eccentrically funk-infused single Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That

There may be a serious amount of soul in breaking artist John Garrison’s debut single Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That, but that didn’t stop him from showing his magnetically playful side in the funky grooving hit.

With lyrics like “I’m just loving that someone wants to see me smile” your soul would need to have checked out not to be endeared by the debut. If the lyrics don’t do it for you, their buttery smooth vocals and the infectiously melodic beats may just do the trick.

Any fans of the American Funk Rock band Wild Cherry will be equally as enamoured by John Garrison’s captivatingly flawless radio-ready single which is accessible from the first hit. Naturally, we can’t wait to hear what comes next.

Rum Buffalo – Screama Preacha featuring Kathika: Rhythmically Filthy, Cinematically Flamboyant Prog Swing Hop

If rhythmically filthy yet cinematically flamboyant Alt Rock is your bag, you may want to make room on your playlists for Rum Buffalo’s flamboyantly transfixing Prog Swing Hop single “Screama Preacha” featuring Kathika.

The progressive track utilises an impressive horn section which will reinvoke any love you harbour for Swing music. Yet, Screama Preacha is anything but archaic. The tensile friction within the soundscape allows this highly innovative mix to ooze seductive contemporary appeal as it evolves through offerings of Cinematic Indie Rock, Nu Metal, Funk Rock and Jazz.

Usually, you’d need to look to Mike Patton for offerings of such arrestive aural innovation, but Rum Buffalo has proven with Screama Preacha that they possess plenty of their own uniquely alchemic appeal.

The lockdown may have hindered Rum Buffalo’s summer plans, but they’ve got plenty more tracks in the pipeline io release throughout 2020.

The Digital Dreamers – Matzo Ball Marriage: Obscurely Infectious Avant-Garde Pop Rock

“Matzo Ball Marriage” is the eccentrically orchestrated latest single from Avant-Garde Experimental artist The Digital Dreamers. Any fans of Frank Zappa will definitely want to delve into the aural insanity which ensues after you hit play.

The growling bass notes in the prelude may lead you to believe that you’re about to be introduced to a serious Funk Rock track. But when the endearingly adrenalizing vocals kick in over the up-tempo piano notes as they electrically sail through their progressions, you’ll realise that The Digital Dreamers only takes the quality of their slightly obscure, insanely infectious sound seriously.

They’ve left quite the impression. We’re already stoked to hear what comes next.

Nick Sargentson – Possessive: Sticky-Sweet Blues Funk-laced Pop Rock

Don’t be surprised if you feel your heart reposition itself in your throat as you’re wrapped up in the sticky sweet melodies in Nick Sargentson’s upcoming single “Possessive”.

Possessive is just one of the singles which feature on the Melbourne-based singer songwriter’s debut EP which is due for release on 20th March 2020.

If you can imagine Eddie Vedder’s seductive vocal evocative appeal mixed with nuanced vocal harmonics you’d expect from the likes of Adam Levine and Shawn Mendes, you’ll be able to get an idea of what’s on offer through Possessive.

The track simply oozes homegrown soul. Yet, despite the humble nature of the track, there’s a perceptible innovative talent which would more than justify an ego; the self-taught guitarist definitely didn’t hold back when it came to the riffs in Possessive.

Big Fat Meanies – Meet Me at the Downbeat: Frenetically Funk-Driven Alt Rock

If you missed the seminal release “Meet Me at the Downbeat” from up and coming Alt Rock artist Big Fat Meanies, it’s our pleasure to introduce you to the frenetic hit.

With Ska, Punk, Rap, Funk, Rockabilly, Swing and Hip Hop all influencing the instrumental style, Meet Me at the Downbeat is a dynamically progressive track which really comes into its own through the stunning solos. Rather than just offering the usual guitar riffs, you’ll also hear drum, bass, and sax solos – each of them is as captivating as the last.

It was a bold move incorporating such a smorgasbord of sounds into their single. But perceptibly, Big Fat Meanies have more than enough talent and energy to pull it off. I can only imagine how immersive a live set would be.
