The teeth of synth rock sharpened to the tune of Ghostfeeder’s latest single, Rearview

Ghostfeeder

The latest monolith of a hook-filled single, Rearview, from the alt-electronica trailblazer Ghostfeeder, stepped out from the shadows of 80s synthpop and glam rock to show its sharp teeth and even sharper hooks.

With the frenzied-with-distortion guitars around Ghostfeeder’s signature vintage synth textures and under the poppy vocals that leave the hooks in IAMX and Highly Suspect tracks sounding blunt, Rearview is a viscerally exhilarant release; especially if you allow the depth of the lyricism to submerge you deeper into the evocative momentum. Anyone who can find resonance in the reprise ‘stuck in rewind’ in the context of being paralysed when it comes to letting go of the past will get galvanizingly more than they’ve bargained for when they hit play.

After sharing stages with goth royalty, including KMFDM, Powerman 5000, and Cold Cave, it is more than about time that Ghostfeeder stepped into the headliner limelight. To bolster the honed songwriting, Rearview was mixed by the Grammy Award-nominated and platinum-selling artist and producer Amir Derakh (Orgy, Dead by Sunrise, Julien-K) and mastered by Mike Marsh (The Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Depeche Mode). The track reaches the pinnacle of cyber goth ear candy.

Go down the downward spiral with Daniel Antonio’s dark electronic rock debut, everything I touch

Any fans of Blue October, Celldweller, and Three Days Grace will be gripped with the evocative raw candour that complements the turbulently dark electronic rock aesthetic in Daniel Antonio’s debut single, everything I touch.

For infectious appeal, the debut fuses pop hooks with glitchy electronica and down-tuned guitars. With the bilingual lyrics adding yet another repeat-worthy facet to the track that exhibits Antonio’s fearless vulnerability equally through the lyrics and vocals, every time you listen to everything I touch, the immense sensory experience becomes that little bit more visceral. The single was written to encapsulate a relatable dark downward spiral that made losing touch an inevitability and admirably as an admission of fallibility.

Away from the music industry, the Sheffield-based solo artist starred in the BAFTA-nominated film Everybody’s Talking About Jamie – which explains the colossal cinematic touches in his debut. He also provided backing vocals for Ed Sheeran & Bring Me the Horizon’s earworm, Bad Habits, which hit number 3 on the UK charts. If this single doesn’t chart too, I might start a riot on his behalf.

The UK’s most promising electronic post-rock pioneers, Bear Witness, have released their temperamentally visceral stormer, Thorn in My Side

Bear Witness

If you ever found yourself with a soft spot for Celldweller, Highly Suspect or InMe, the Brighton-based Electronic Alt-Rock duo, Bear Witness have exactly what it takes to rekindle your affinity for viscerally raw turbulent tracks. Their latest single, Thorn in My Side, is practically post-rock pornography.

Around the overdriven scuzzy guitar riffs, there’s enough of a melody to leave you hooked in the temperamental rhythms, and perceptibly, Bear Witness know just how to use spatial effect and build tension throughout their sonic stormer.

Unsurprisingly, we aren’t the only ones hooked on Bear Witness’ refreshing candour and blisteringly off-kilter signature sound. They’ve already been lauded by the BBC, played to crowds at The Camden Assembly, and are currently semi-finalists in the Isle of Wight Festival’s New Blood competition.

The breaking electropunk artist, PR6TTY E, has dropped his hyper-sonic electronica hit, Games

Since PR6TTY E premiered the music video to his latest electropunk single, Games, on January 28th, it has racked up over 36 thousand streams on YouTube alone; which scarcely comes as a surprise with the infectious industrial trap pop hooks that are laced into the hyper-sonic darkwave production by SXZU.

I don’t say this lightly, but PR6TTY E deserves to be as equally revered as Bob Vylan and IAMX for his experimentally bold style that has the potential to introduce a brand-new generation to electro-punk. As someone raised on the cuts of Celldweller, Skinny Puppy and Front 242, I can safely say that it has the potential to appease old school harsh electronica fans too. The fact that PR6TTY E is doing this at the age of 18 is beyond impressive; what further proof do you need of his prodigal status?

AKMV-18 shows us what it sounds like when nature turns mechanical in his latest release, Chevalerie

‘Chevalerie’ is the latest dark and caustic electronic track that acts as a blackened sign of our times from the up and coming US artist and producer, AKMV-18. With visceral reminiscences to Celldweller, the pulsating beats thrash through the cavernous soundscape that embraces the darkest facets of our dystopic age.

The mechanical rhythms pierce through the comfortingly cold and hollow atmosphere of the track that bleeds an all too relatable melancholy while taking control of your rhythmic pulses through the psytrance nuances. Even the most pretentious cybergoth snobs would have a hard time picking holes in this entrancing hit which was just one of the seminal singles to feature on their latest EP.

12 Below – Jetsam: Austere art-rock

South Florida’s most avant-garde art-rock artist 12 Below is back with his sophomore single, Jetsam, which pulls together as a dark and discordant mash of industrial, darkwave synth-pop and post-punk.

With an intro that shares reminiscence to Manchester post-punk outfit The Chameleons before the soundscape switches into a phantasmal feat of electro-rock that any fans of Dir En Grey or Celldweller will be familiar with, you’ll be hooked from the first haunted note to the last.

The ethereally ambient soundscape was constructed with effect-loaded guitars and glassy keys in downtempo progressions, for the visceral kick, 12 Below loaded caustic drums and a heavy serving of bass. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to hear an artist similar to NIN, who also makes the dark electro sound their own.

No Signal implanted Trap into the Industrial Rock Arena with their Alt Rock hit “Digital Eyes”

The future is here, in the form of No Signal’s Alt Rock Trap hit Digital Eyes. The friction-laden, filthy instrumentals are the perfect pairing for No Signal’s darkly distorted vocals which bring the Trap elements into the monstrously indulgent mix.

Any fans of Celldweller, Skinny Puppy, Frontline Assembly and other melodic Industrial Rock artists are sure to hear plenty of appeal in this romantically ominous bass-riding hit.

Digital Eyes is the ultimate testament to the artist’s ability to cook up an ever-lasting earworm. You’ll want to give the track plenty of repeat attention to soak up the amorous ingenuity of the lyrics which alluringly compliments the raw, gritty grooves in the Industrial instrumentals.

jecht_0 – Signs: Viscerally Charged Industrial Electronic Rock

Sydney based artist and producer jecht_0 has recently dropped their masterpiece of an Electronic Rock album “Pt2”. With nice bitey infusions of Industrial in the tracks, any fans Celldweller, 3teeth, Orgy and Nine Inch Nails will definitely want the album in their ears.

While each of the tracks is a soul soother for the angsty and disillusioned, the perfect introduction to jecht_0’s viscerally atmospheric style is track 1 “Signs”. The viscerally charged aural storm may throw plenty of harsh discord your way. But atop of the sonically fierce fuzz are jecht_0’s evocative vocals which will allow you to feel every word in the raw arrestive lyricism.

Alternative artists whose tracks truly resonate as unique aren’t found every day. Yet, with jecht_0 the distinction practically slaps you in the face. Pair that with the flawless production of Signs and you’ve got another reason to start getting excited about the exceptionally promising breaking artist.
