It is getting increasingly difficult for alt-rock outfits to carve a niche, yet, Utah-hailing alt-rock trio MoonSugar made light work of establishing an authentic yet nostalgically immersive sound with their debut single, ‘Spinning Out’.
Breathy tender vocals can be hit or miss, but the harmonically light vocal timbre is right on the mark as it boasts reminiscences to Big Thief, The Proclaimers and Meredith Brooks. Spinning Out wouldn’t be out of place on the Never Been Kissed OST, but with the angular definitively alt-90s guitar tones, MoonSugar pulled their sound from the mainstream with nuanced grungy textures.
Despite the easy melodicism of Spinning Out, it is a stormer of a single that will leave you with plenty of anticipation for their sophomore release.
Spinning Out is now available to stream via Spotify.
Bristol-based singer-songwriter, Clara Day, made her debut with the stunning Psych Folk single, ‘The Ritual’, on December 17th, without a hint of hyperbole, it may be the most enthralling single released in 2020.
By taking inspiration from 70s folk horror films, Clara Day was able to bring hypnotically hexing energy to the ambient semi-orchestral single which oozes sensuality, beguile and tender intimacy, all in equal measure.
Any fans of Mazzy Star, Angel Olsen and Big Thief will find Clara Day’s haunting vocal timbre just as enchanting. Yet, with the celestial psychedelia which the singer-songwriter brings to her transfixing sound, there’s an extra layer of alchemy to sink your teeth into.

MXK’s debut single Air featuring Olivia Meade is a hallowing mix of synth pop which captures the contempt of every women ever scorned as the narrative lyrics unravel, gripping you as they lead you through the track demanding that you share in her melancholy.
Along with acts such as Angel Olsen, London Grammar, Big Thief & Heavy Heart, this artist has got some stiff competition but with their first ever single, MXK and Olivia have blown it out of the park by creating this delectably dark ensemble that you can listen to time and time again.
To say that Air is an empowering track is possibly the biggest understatement I could make. The beautifully stunning singer song writer Olivia has been around on the underground with her guitar since 2009, it’s a tragic sign of the times that this track isn’t being blasted by every mainstream radio station.
Along with her staggering vocal ability, Olivia Meade is also a multi-instrumentalist, but her true talent lies in the passion she packs into her sound to create a powerfully transgressive mix with MXK.
