Leah Nawy has unleashed her iconic indie pop rock playlist staple, Friend of Mine

We’ve been obsessed with the NYC pop rock pioneer Leah Nawy ever since sinking into her lusciously groove-pocketed debut single, NUISANCE, which has racked up over 46k streams on Spotify alone since its release in 2023. In the opening verses of her sophomore single, Friend of Mine, the singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist exhibited a softer and more vulnerable side in her confessional release which alludes to how opening yourself up to people is only priming for the scars that will be left when you inevitably part ways.

When there’s little to separate realism and pessimism after life experiences have taught you that optimism is the outlook of the naïve, sentiments which unravel with the same pensive sting as the lyrics in Friend of Mine are inevitable. Yet, by the time the track reaches the midway mark, it transcends into a soulful power ballad before metamorphosising into an indie rock anthem for the disenfranchised but tenacious despite the bruises masses.

By bursting the bubblegum pop bubble with spikes of cultivated indie rock, the melancholy within Friend of Mine adopted a brand-new ferocity as an attestation to how you can reflect on your shortcomings without falling into a trap of self-pity. With a voice as indomitable as Lady Gaga fused with a cutting-edge indie pop rock signature sound, she’s a rare artist whose work merits her being referred to as an icon. We can’t wait to hear what follows.

Friend of Mine was officially released on December 22. Stream it on Spotify.

A&R Factory Present: Gregory Boyd

The Sound of Trinidadian Steel Drums are reinvented and combined with Contemporary Pop music to create the global fusion of steel pannist singer songwriter Gregory Boyd. Gregory Boyd now resides in Denmark after living in New Orleans for many years but is really a child of American music being born in the Midwest and raised for a time in Detroit Michigan.

Gregory Boyds music can be described as refreshing, exciting and sometimes thought provoking. His collaborations with American artists such as Charles Neville, Cyril Neville, Delmar Brown, Paul Jackson, Jon Cleary, Lillian Boutte, Doctor John, Daryl Johnson , Jon Cleary , Anders Osborne, Butch Lacy, Kluvers Big Band, Peter Bastian, Tomas Franck, Kim Menzer, Klaus Menzer, Emil De Wail, Jesper Bodilsen, Uffe Steen, Ben Besiakov, Lise Westzynthius, USO and many others, has won him acclaim Internationally.

Gregory talks about his latest track, Beating On A Drum. “I’ve looked forward to this day. Although I have played all over the world, I always feel like its the first time. This release is recorded straight into the machine. Very few over dubs with essentially a trio of Electro-Acoustic Steel Pans and Vocals, Bass, Drumset and some percussion. I love the use of minimal funky sounds al a Meters, and the wash of trio rock bands such as U2, Green day, Hendrix. The trick for me has always been to make my part fat with my technique of four sticks on my steel pans (electrified and amped up with my fender blues Deville), Bass, drums and my voice and feel honestly convinced at the result”

One of the most unique performances we have seen this week! *****

A&R Factory Present: THØSS

THØSS is a 6ft 6” artist from Fleet, UK. A songwriter and purveyor of the DIY music mentality. Fascinated by nostalgia, THØSS looks to the old to make the new.

His debut EP ‘Benchwarmer’ will be available later this Spring with debut track IWITW being re-leased last month. In the space of the track’s short release life it managed to reach number 2 on the Spotify UK Viral Chart and number 4 on the Global Viral Chart, amassing well over 350,000 plays. It was been added to Apple Music’s “Best Of The Week” playlist and has picked up support from BBC Introducing in London.

‘The Meter‘ will be the second release off the upcoming EP – spikier than its predecessors, this track was born out of suburban staticity and THØSS’ frustration with the world for leaving him be-hind.

It will be available to buy/ listen to on all retail platforms.
