The origins of rock can be traced back to the 1940s. With the introduction of electric guitars, country and rhythm & blues took a raucous twist. The contortion and amplification of sound enabled rock n roll to become one of the most controversial genres the world would ever embrace.

Rock has always been a broad genre; what started as Rock n Roll in the 1940s enabled Chuck Berry to shake the world in the 50s, the Beatles to melt minds in the 60s and the Rolling Stones to inspire sex-driven rebellion in the 70s. In the ’80s, Guns N Roses took everyone on a trip down the sleazy sunset strip, and rock took an angstier turn with grunge breaking through in the 90s.

Rock has never been afraid to explore the social or political, nor has it been afraid to evolve. Endless subgenres have emerged across the decades, southern rock, folk-rock, glam rock, psych rock, and blues-rock all diverge from the classic format, but still encompass the same energy and fortitude of pioneers.

Rock may have experienced a decline in popularity at the turn of the century, but it is primed to make a comeback. The revival has already started with hip hop artists such as Post Malone embracing the roots of rock in their sound and massive rock festivals are consistently cropping up across the globe; leaving plenty of room on the line-ups for emerging artists.

If you’re passionate about keeping rock n roll still breathing and connecting with the fans always ready to welcome new artists, get in touch.

About A&R Factory

A&R Factory founded in 2012 with the sole aim of getting new and emerging artists in industry professionals’ ears. We have grown to be one of the most respected A&R blogs in the UK and internationally.

We have worked alongside phenomenal rock artists of all inclinations to help them make waves in the underground that spill into the mainstream. We take pride in supporting bands before their big breaks, such as post-punk band LIINES who became the breakthrough artist of the year in 2020, joined Sleaford Mods on a European tour and received critical acclaim for their debut album.

We also got to watch the ascent of bands such as Desert Mountain Tribe who amassed a global following with their heady psych-rock sound and joined Peter Murphy on tour.

What we are looking for

Whether you’re a classic rock revivalist or your signature sound falls into more experimental realms, we’d love to hear from you and help plenty of others hear you too. Our in-house team are passionate about playing our part in the revival of rock, but we can’t do that without you.
