With the Special Tier EP, Arizona-based artist and producer TRILIIIGY leads listeners into a glitchwavey fever dream, descending into a dystopically digital rabbit hole with the standout single, ALICE. The release captures an artist pushing further into thematic ingenuity, where electronic production becomes less of a genre exercise and more of a full-body visualisation of what happens when reality bends.
The erraticism of the breakbeats, paired with scintillatingly psychedelic and equally ethereal synths, gives ALICE its unstable centre of gravity. Twisted fairytale insignia flicker through the production, making the track feel like a corrupted storybook glowing from inside a cracked screen. Even when the rhythms jolt and fragment, TRILIIIGY keeps the single emotionally legible, which is the real gut punch. It is not only strange for the sake of being strange; it feels like madness finding its own melodic logic.
The butter-wouldn’t-melt timbre of the FX-laden, childlike vocals lets the inner child quiver through the lyrics, turning the line “Home is the circle of your arms” into a heart-wrenching echo of vulnerability. The vocal sweetness only makes the darkness feel sharper, as though innocence has been trapped inside the machinery and left to sing its way out.
TRILIIIGY depicts the true darkness of madness in a world that scarcely feels tangible. It was enough to bring tears to the surface.
ALICE is now available on all major streaming platforms, including Bandcamp.
