My Boyfriend – A Journey Into Pre-Pop Pastures

My Boyfriend revel in the sounds of the 50’s, the pop and bop, the swing and easy listening of the just pre-rock’n’roll age and Never is them at their cool and croonerish best. Whilst many bands are looking back at that era and reinventing or at least re-appropriating its more famous wild musical excesses, it is great to come across a band who remind us that it wasn’t all about swinging hips and rocking around timekeeping devices.

Never is charming in its wonderfully underplayed way and if the album it comes from, the amusingly named Clusterfox, contains a range of rocking chair balladry and cardigan wearing crooning, it all comes from the right place showing a real appreciation of the fledgling pop and easy listening styles. Never? Always!
