The sandman chewed bubblegum (pop) in Delila’s third single, Sex Dreams

Not many pop hits can rival Marina and the Diamonds’ Primadonna and Icona Pop’s I Love It, but the NY-hailing pop icon-in-the-making Delila effortlessly matched the sticky-sweet floor-filling energy with her third single, Sex Dreams.

Sex Dreams, which hit the airwaves on June 28th, is a drastic change in tone from Delila’s previous releases, Mad World and Killerkiller; it is safe to say she’s come into her own with the sugar rush of a single, which was created in collaboration with the production team, Supperclub.

In stark contrast to the title, Sex Dreams is a romantically rapturous release which celebrates the strength of a connection that goes beyond the conscious and spills into the subconscious to litter dreams with wanton lust.

Building an infectiously electrifying pop hit around real emotion is more than what artists with decades of experience in the industry can achieve. The sincerity resonates through the vibrantly honeyed euphoria in Sex Dreams while the production gives Taylor Swift’s discography a run for its money.

Delila said:

“Sex Dreams is about an off-and-on long-distance relationship, which left us mostly communicating over the phone. After a long period of not speaking, I received a text asking me if I was manifesting them because they couldn’t stop thinking about me, and I was in all their dreams. I wrote the song to say, listen to yourself and be with me.”

Take a psychonautic pop trip with Zachary James’ rock-licked single, Slide Away

Experimentalism notably wasn’t in short supply in Zachary James’ psychedelic pop-rock album, Intergalactic. The lead single, Slide Away, featuring the staunchly virtuosic guitar work of Frederick Poholek, is a passion-driven trip through the cosmos. Led by distortedly soaring guitar lines, scuzzy synths, and, of course, Zachary James vocals, which emanate a visceral sense of soul into the single, allowing you to imagine what gospel music will sound like 100 years from now. Even if that is a bit of a stretch, it is a million lightyears away from the original version, first put on the airwaves by Miley Cyrus.

The New York-residing Grammy Award-winning artist is best known for his work on Broadway, opera, TV, and film, but now he has set his sights on the airwaves, he will undoubtedly reign supreme on them.

Dance away the heartbreak with Róisín McCarney’s noughties pop nostalgia hit, Sidelines

Róisín McCarney

Stylistically, we got plenty wrong in the 00s, but it was a golden era of pop & pop punk with Avril Lavigne, Miley Cyrus and Olivia Rodrigo being the soundtrack to our angsty lows and euphoric highs; up and coming artist, Róisín McCarney took us right back there with her nostalgic noughties pop hit, Sidelines.

The Scottish singer-songwriter has broken away from the dance genre to make the best use of her honeyed fiery vocals by creating a vindicating heartbreak anthem that serves as a reminder that the only one that can pull you in from the sidelines is you.

After finishing her cancer treatment, Róisín McCarney knows better than most how precious life is when it isn’t a given. Written between the lines is a request for people to dance their heartbreak away; luckily enough, you have the perfect anthem to do it with. The bouncy pop-rock guitars against her vocal lines that could give Pink a run for her money create a sure-fire serotonin hit.

Sidelines will officially release on October 14th. Hear it on Spotify and follow the rising pop icon on Instagram and TikTok.
