Lo Fi Ambient

Warren Davis has released his era-defining ambient EP, Oden’s Palace.

Birmingham, UK-based independent artist, Warren Davis, has released his ambient, mood-reflecting EP, Oden’s Palace, featuring the standout single, Discord. The meditative tempo makes it easy to drink in the organic flair of Warren Davis’ signature style which is defining a new era of new-age lo-fi. He leaves enough space for the listener to feed in their own emotion and imagination, but the gentle guitar melodies still lead to a higher mental plateau.

By taking inspiration from RnB, reggae, and Anime OST’s, Davis can orchestrate soundscapes that are as tonally vibrant as they are explorative and intensely cathartic. Do we even need to tell you he deserves a spot on your radar?

Discord is now available to stream on Spotify.

TG Heath – Mellow Instrumental Gorgeousness with ‘ようこそ (yōkoso)’

Ambient, jazzy piano chords and lo-fi sensibilities mix with bang-on-trend electronica in this, TG Heath’s new single, from his brand new album ‘Transients’, released on the 23rd April. ‘Transients’ is inspired by confessional prayer, the follow-up to his debut ‘Monsoon’ – a twenty-track anthology accompanying his spoken-word poetry show which toured the UK.

Yōkoso is a beautifully atmospheric mellow instrumental piece, gentle drums, a rolling piano part that alternately lulls you into peaceful contemplation then nudges you gently sideways with a discordant lift or drop key-shift, just to keep you on your toes, shifting the feel marginally and adding tension and then release. It’s a delightful piece of work, the keys string-like at times, story-telling and hazy, a narrative soundscape which works hard in conveying Heath’s unique musical voice.

You can hear yōkoso on Spotify; follow TG Heath on Instagram.

Neo-Classic artist and composer Reid Wegrecki made orchestral strings accessible with their lo-fi ambient dreamscape “Curiosity”

Many contemporary music fans view classical music as anachronistic or inaccessible. Reid Wegrecki is on a mission to smash those misconceptions and accordantly welcome more people to the world of orchestrally-crafted ambience.

By finding the perfect balance between live orchestral instruments and lo-fi ambient electronic effect, Reid Wegrecki offers the striking nature of neo-classic strings, brass and keys while allowing her soundscapes to be commercially immersive.

For every composition, Reid Wegrecki collaborates with a rotating line up of exceptionally skilled artists. The end result is more than mesmeric. Quite honestly, it’s like nothing I’ve ever heard before. While I’m no stranger to Classical or Neo-Classic scores, their sound resonates as captivating and cathartic simultaneously. The ambience will soothe you while the nuancedly crafted melodies will leave you in awe of the talent behind the soundscape.

The perfect introduction to the artist and composer’s style is the instrumental single “Curiosity” which can be found on their tenderly absolving 4-track EP “Daydreams”.

Heads or Heads – Nightfall: Lo-Fi Trip-Hop Laced Psych Pop

Low Angles by Heads or Heads

The intellectualism practically drips from the synth-led latest single to be released by up and coming Alt Psych Pop artist Heads or Heads. “Nightfall” laces the dreamy lo-fi mix with subtle elements of Trip Hop to ensure that it offers plenty of Funk to take with you on your cathartically psychedelic Trip.

The Missouri based artist utilised archaic urban elements, deconstructed them, and revived them in an absorbingly fresh work of ingenuity.  Expect a kaleidoscope of colour to be spilt as it softly unravels.

If you can imagine what it would sound like if Mike Patton started releasing more ambient and melodic music, you’d get an idea of what Nightfall offers. Aural ambient treats don’t come much more indulgent than this.
