Love Ghost – Dead Brother: Atmospherically Phantasmal Dark Rock

I’m used to psychological terror on-screen but listening to Love Ghost’s latest single “Dead Bother” was my first time of taking it in aurally.

That all sounds frightfully macabre. But what you’ll actually get when you hit play is an atmospheric, groove-filled feat of Dark Rock complete with lyrics which share reminiscences with Horror Punk pioneers the Misfits. Yet the serpentine dark 80s-inspired rhythms combined with the phantasmally bewitching vocals create a hazy mellow soundscape which allows you to soak up the disconcerting lyricism all too easily. Any fans of Deftones, Type O Negative, Incubus and A Perfect Circle are sure to appreciate Dead Brother as much as we did.

Forest Hills – Introvert: Alchemically Gothic Alt Rock

NYC-based Alt Rock artist Forest Hills dropped an unmissable hit in 2019. If any fans of Gothically alchemic Alt Rock missed it, you’ll thank us later for the introduction to their standout single “Introvert”.

The fuzzy distorted chugging riffs provide the perfect contrast between front-man Zero Surico’s soaring vocals allowing you to appreciate them in all their soaring evocative glory. With subtle hints of Pop and Punk infused into the vocals in Introvert, you’re treated to powerful harmonics which come with plenty of ferocious bite.

Forest Hills are clearly an act who boldly set out to carve out their own sound. And they’ve definitely achieved that with Introvert which resonates as though you’re drinking in pure unbridled emotion.

Alt-Rock Artist Mandi Crimmins Proves Her Pensively Raw Prowess with Latest Single “Ashes”

“Ashes” is the latest single from up and coming Boston-based singer-songwriter Mandi Crimmins, while her earlier releases packed an emotive punch, with Ashes it’s practically pensive aural warfare.

With Ashes, Mandi Crimmins moved away from her Heavy Rock sound to orchestrate a striking Alt Rock ballad complete with unflinchingly powerful vocals, and a deeply intricate progressive soundscape. While the prelude to Ashes starts out with a tentative piano melody, by the time you hit the chorus, you’re in the midst of a momentous soundscape fraught with chaos, intensity, and authentic passion.

With vocals sharing reminiscences with the likes of both Kate Bush and Amy Lee of Evanescence, Mandi Crimmins’ vocals are as arrestive as they come, and the instrumentals also do their fair share of emotional wreckage in this track.

Samuel Yuri – Wind Before the Storm: Organically Sun-Soaked Goth Rock

You know you’ve stumbled across an absolute gem of a track when you crack a smile before the prelude has even finished seamlessly leading you into the first verse. Samuel Yuri is the genius behind the brand new single Wind Before the Storm. Slapping a genre label on the his sound almost seems criminal, whilst it flirts with Grunge, Classic Rock, Lo Fi and Goth Rock simultaneously the sound is irrefutably organic.

If you’re a fan of Type O Negative, Bauhaus, Alice in Chains, Danzig or the 69 Eyes, you really wouldn’t want to miss out on Wind Before the Storm. Samuel’s Lo Fi approach to production allowed the melancholy to pierce through the melody of this track to give you a reticently beautiful offering of Goth Rock.

You can check out the sensational single Wind Before the Storm via YouTube. It’s safe to say I’m already a little bowled over by his sun soaked, grungey style. That will be the roots of his São Paulo heritage pouring through.
