‘BROKEN’ is Triggered Velocity Turning Post-Grunge Grief into a Scarred Juggernaut of an Earworm

Triggered Velocity feel born for Seattle’s 90s grunge pantheon alongside Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, yet their post-grunge masterpiece, BROKEN, comes raging out of Norfolk, UK, with its own bruised, rain-blackened authority.

The way the vocals move through the murky, turbulent waters, carrying echoes of unplaced familiarity, gives the distinction in the evocatively melodised notes a raw sense of magnetism. Bruising and broadsiding in equal measure, the quivering grief over how life feels like a losing battle more so than death makes BROKEN a vignette of bouncing between the cold, harsh reality of existing in a world that is as punishing as your mind.

Imagine the rage of Nirvana fuelling the emotive capacity of Placebo and meeting the sludgy cinematic unravelling of Soundgarden, and you will come close to envisioning what Triggered Velocity slam into the airwaves with this scarred juggernaut of an earworm.

Formed in 2018, the five-piece have earned their reputation through sweat-soaked rooms, thick basslines, 90s-fuelled riffs and lyrics that land close to the bone. Winners of The Brickmakers Battle of the Bands 2024, they channel that live force into their self-titled debut album with total conviction, turning volume into emotional evidence and distortion into survival language for anyone still standing.

Ami Leigh Found Pop Catharsis in the Fractures of Broken

Ami Leigh is steadily building a discography that reads like an anthology of the bittersweet truths of human psychology, and her latest single, Broken, may be one of her most cutting expositions yet. The track unravels the internalised belief that we are fundamentally flawed, that heartbreak, rejection, and social bruises are proof of some deep-rooted fault. Leigh turns the emotional scars into symbols of the way we self-flagellate for our differences, forgetting that everyone else is just as messy in ways as unique as a fingerprint.

To deliver this vignette of inner angst and frustration, Ami Leigh aurally channels an alt-90s aesthetic, swirling infectious pop hooks with the grit of indie-rock resolve. Think Natalie Imbruglia and The Cardigans meeting the guitars of Send Away the Tigers-era Manic Street Preachers.

Megan Lynette paved the path to resilient redemption in her debut single, Broken

With her debut single, Broken, the Houston-born-and-raised contemporary Christian & gospel singer, songwriter and soulstress Megan Lynette helped her audience to find their missing pieces on the route to resilience and redemption.

Rather than shying away from the most painful facets of the human condition, the recording artist acts as the guiding light away from them by allowing her lyrics to traverse the themes of joy, struggle, healing, hope, and perseverance.

With vocal lines that drench the synthpop soundscape with stylish gospel-esque soul, Broken is an all-consumingly compassionate release that is ardently enlightening enough to resonate with anyone caught in the crosshairs of visceral pain, tragedy and confusion.

With her sophomore single, Only Hope, set for release in 2023, it is well worth following Megan Lynette’s career as it becomes illustrious in the coming months.

San Jose Hardcore Rockers Dead Engine kick the door down and drop 2020’s them track ‘Broken’

San Jose, California Hard Rock band Dead Engine bring us the years theme song with the new single called ‘Broken‘.

The thunderous thump of a start slaps everything else in its path away like a pesky fly. The band smash in with a sound that so many love and so many absolutely hate. While they might split opinion, you have to appreciate the musicianship here as they don’t leave anything left in the locker when they morph into an act that want to make as much quality noise as humanly possible.

With an electric guitar that bursts your eardrums, this is a truly honest picture of the world right now from their eyes. The self-aware act turn up the heat on what has been a cooking year that has overheated even the most sensible mind. I love how this stomps the yard down and brings through a rugged sound that is ominous and so raw, there is no skin left.

The shredding vocals power in and gives your mood a real lift with a song that pretty much sums up the the year. The world is really broken and needs forward thinking leaders that can see through the money and actually help its community.

‘Broken‘ from San Jose band Dead Engine shows the desperate nature that so many people are in right now. We need to move on with our lives but money is really low and its forcing us to do things we wouldn’t normally do. If you can’t re-invent yourself and find new streams of income, things are going to get desperate and that spells danger.
