The Stanford Family Band – On My Holiday: A Riotously Sunlit Escapade Through the Intersections of Indie, Garage Rock, and Motown

The Stanford Family Band, following their debut ‘Love Me A Bit‘, have returned with ‘On My Holiday‘, a single that radiates with the warmth of a supernova. This track, a part of their upcoming 6-track EP ‘For Your Listening Pleasure’, is a vibrant testament to the Brighton-based band’s endlessly euphoric sonic identity.

From the first note, ‘On My Holiday’ is an immersion in a riotously colourful explosion of kaleidoscopic fervency. The vintage production, reminiscent of Ray Charles’ ‘Mess Around’, is a masterful blend of bluesy piano grooves and Beach Boys-esque harmonies. The trailblazers could never be as pedestrian as solely nodding to the past; with this release, they reimagined the aural ecstasy of a bygone era, tailored for today’s indie and garage rock enthusiasts.

Frontman Elliot Stanford’s captivating lead vocals, coupled with the band’s commitment to complex four-part harmonies and memorable melodic hooks resulted in a quirky upbeat odyssey through a bittersweet vignette, which affirmed that in the death of winter, the sun is just around the corner.

Elliot’s approach to songwriting, as he describes, is an exercise in balancing musical joy with lyrical melancholy, a juxtaposition reminiscent of the Beach Boys circa 1965. ‘On My Holiday’ is the embodiment of this philosophy, musically exuberant yet lyrically introspective.

On My Holiday was released via Goo Records on February 27th and is now available to stream on Spotify.

The Q-Days – Underboard: Alt-90s Nostalgia Has Never Been Kaleidoscopically Sweeter

The Brighton-based alt-rock outfit, The Q-Days, is driving nostalgia into the next generation of British guitar music with their dreamy kaleidoscopic 90s Britpop-kicked tones and cathartically honeyed vocal lines. Their latest single, Underboard, is sweeter than Sally Cinnamon under the duress of the choral progressions that lick anthemic soul into every honed note.

With escapism, freedom of expression and euphoria as their triadic ethos, they stand for everything we should be giving an ovation to in the UK right now. It’s the pits, but one thing is for sure, our polluted waters are the perfect breeding ground for prodigal sons of rock n roll that salvation seekers will want to flock to.

After spending their foundling days developing their craft before it reached the airwaves and live stages, The Q-Days were always going to be primed to make a killer debut. So far, they’ve opened for Youth Killed It, The Rifles, and Bilk, but if any breakthrough act is definitively headliner material, it’s The Q-Days.

Underboard will officially release on April 7th. Check it out on SoundCloud.

‘Roadblock’ from Brighton band Compliments is a debut dripped in gold

4-piece Brighton band Compliments rock in with their brand new single called ‘Roadblock‘.

Formed in 2020 and brought together by the band Gods as a way of freshening up the music scene. This is all about escapism and that feeling encapsulated 2020 in a nutshell. The feeling of being trapped all inside and looking outside by the window.

Roadblock‘ is a rocking indie-rock soundtrack that needs to be in a Netflix series. There is bite here, an edge to this young UK band. For a new team, they are in-sync like a glove that fits your hand, they are on the right side of time here. They might be the wrong side of the road and clock in this one lyric-wise but their emergence is met with real excitement.

Brighton band Compliments get better and better as the songs gears into the meaty part of the bone. There is lots to feed off here as they bands sound takes over. This is a terrific track that makes me listen again and again. Yes, this song is timeless and deserves lots of love. For a debut release, this is a great day to be alive. Turn this up and forget your worries.

Melt into the Experimental Funk in Benzo Fabulous’ Alt Pop single “Jonathan in Jerusalem”

For some artists, experimentalism comes at the cost of accessibility, yet up and coming Alt-Pop artist Benzo Fabulous found the perfect balance in their Lo-Fi Garage Pop single “Jonathan in Jerusalem”.

Discernibly, Benzo Fabulous allows their creativity to lead the way when constructing their singles instead of their desire to appeal to the masses with a plastic and uniform sound. As a result, Jonathan in Jerusalem is laden with Psychedelic Funk and has plenty of Avant-Garde aural mayhem to throw your way.

The Brighton-based artist is definitely one to watch if you enjoy melting into off the cuff and endearingly eccentric tracks.

You can listen to Jonathan in Jerusalem for yourselves by heading over to Spotify.
