Oliver West – Costumes: A Contemporarily Experimental Take on Folk Pop

Not all singer songwriters have the capacity to make Folk Pop which is fitting for the 21s century air waves, but it would seem the up and coming artist Oliver West certainly isn’t your average newcomer.

With his latest single “Costumes”, the vocals may be ethereal and pure. Yet, what will really captivate is the progression of the single which contains subtle and slight deviations to the archetypal soundscapes you’d expect to hear from the genre. The guitar is far less concordant and proceeds with piercing acoustic bends whilst a drum machine sets the rhythm rather than just using an all acoustic arrangement. The end result is an intricately mastered, infinitely immersive soundscape where you really get to hear Oliver West utilise each note to express his prodigal flair.
