Jae’s latest single Come a Long Way is an R&B track that drips pure unadulterated Soul; which is something a lot of contemporary Urban artists forget to infuse into their sounds.
Each aspect of Come a Long Way is absolutely flawless, from the tentatively melodic Trap beat which sets a sultry pace for the enigmatic crooner to lay down his vocals upon to the lyrics. The lyrics are by far the standout element that sets Jae apart from many of the other R&B artists I’ve heard this year, within them you can expect gritty realism wrapped around the more archetypal romanticism which you’d expect from a R&B track. In fact, they’re almost enough to make a jaded cynic feel actual real human emotions. Come a Long Way isn’t just your average offering of introspection, the narrative lyrics are highly resonant, and by the time the last verse runs through, you’re left kind of wishing that you were the one that Jae was in love with. Or is that just me?
