Gue$$who – Turkish Delight (Prod. OG Abi)

Gue$$who

It’s a track so opaque, so gossamer light, so transient that it is almost impossible to assign it a genre, though if you pushed me (the most) ambient pop should suffice for now. It infuses together soulful, jazz echoes, whispered vocals, half-heard electronica and sultry musical touches into the most chilled of deliveries.

If some music seems to fit into a certain time of day, the getting ready to go out music, the music to have a few drinks to before the club, the midnight dance floor fillers and the apres-club chill out music, then Turkish Delight fits right into the latter category. It is a song that meanders rather than grooves, skits along rather than struts, is smooth and full of soothing vibes, the perfect way to round the night off.

Its a track that proves that pop and dance music doesn’t have to be big and boisterous, bombastic and overblown. I mean, it can be if you like that sort of thing, it’s just that the more interesting sonic creations are often found when such musical building blocks are spread thinnest, when a song seems built more of texture and nuance than groove and beat. It’s a track so opaque, so gossamer light, so transient that it is almost impossible to assign it a genre, though ambient pop should suffice for now. It infuses together soulful dance echoes, gentle vocals, half-heard electronica and sultry musical touches into the most chilled of deliveries.
