Whilst up and coming Trap artist De La Cruz may take inspiration for his tracks from artists such as Drake, Logic and Lil Wayne, his style is irrefutably his own. The first thing that hits you with his latest single Ip Man produced by Lucid Soundz is the instant accessibility of the smooth, multi-layered sound which flows with a melodically transient tempo. The light synth keys rest against the relentless rattle and snare of the 808 beats as the reverb carries a lucid energy. In parts, it does feel as though there’s a little too much happening in the track as the female vocal samples go up against the effects and De La Cruz’s rap bars. Yet, Ip Man is still a standout track which allows the artist to stamp down the authority of his sweet lyrical delivery.
