Lyrical ingenuity is one sure fire way of blowing us away. And Che managed to do exactly that with her standout single “Down 2 Ride”. With relatable lines about swiping through Tinder, once the lyrical verses start the melodies give you very little choice whether or not you get immersed in the track.
Right from the prelude you get a taste for Che’s experimentalism which combines elements of Neo Soul, Hip Hop and Funk. The bass-heavy lines lead you into the seamlessly progressive soundscape. But one thing which does remain as a constant is Che’s magnetic Rap delivery style which has no use for self-aggrandization or autotune. The smooth delivery of her bars, the confidence, and the flawless meter made for one of the best Hip hop earworms that you’ve heard this year.
