Belicose – TOGO: A Hauntingly Atmospheric Mix of Hip Hop, Electronica & Rock

I’ll be honest, I had trouble picking up my jaw as I listened to Belicose’s latest track “TOGO” unfold through each of the strikingly mesmeric progressions.

But it’s not every day that you happen across an artist who can pour so much soul into a hauntingly atmospheric soundscape.

While many artists may put Hip Hop and Rock together, Belicose may have just pointed out that the essential element missing in that cocktail is Alt Electronica.  While the prelude is as haunting as a track from Echo and the Bunnymen or the Cure, the track quickly transforms through the addition of reverb-soaked guitar and layers of fuzzy synth. Instrumentally, the track would be fitting in any David Lynch soundtrack, but the resonantly soulful vocals add an effervescent dynamic to the otherwise ominous sound. In short, Belicose is one of the most prodigally inspired artists we’ve had the pleasure of checking out this year. While your average listener may not have the attention span for a 6-minute extended progressive track, its an audiophile’s delight.
