Anthony Lee Phillips – Stayin’ Honest: Ambiently Raw Jazz-Infused Indie

Anthony Lee Phillips’ single Stayin’ Honest is perhaps one of the most seamless crossovers of ambient Jazz and Indie I’ve ever heard. Whilst many may still be under the impression that Jazz is inaccessible as a genre, the Seattle US-based recording artist in his prodigally authentic approach has created an emotively charged progression of stylishly smooth harmony.

He may describe his latest album ‘Need More Coffee’ as messy and raw yet, what you’re treated to is unadulterated, stripped back no-frills ambience which is an absolute pleasure to slip into. The vocal harmonies weave through the bluesy rhythms of the guitar alongside the concordant crashing of the cymbals before treating you to some intricately complex instrumental breakdowns. In short, it’s cathartic perfection.

Sadly, you’re going to have to wait a little longer to check it out yourselves. Anthony Lee Phillips’ album will be released October 22nd, 2018 prepare for some melancholically mused, jazz-soaked Indie. In the meantime, you can head over to the artist’s Soundcloud page and check out some of his earlier releases.
