Purge yourselves via District 13’s post-hardcore stormer, Step into the Fire

There was little chance of forgetting the mesmeric furore of District 13, which we were introduced to via their 2019 single, Soma. The Exeter-hailing virtuosic sons have driven even more frenetic finesse into their sound over lockdown if their latest single, Step into the Fire, is anything to go by.

Between the old-school Black Sabbath vibes and the hints of post-hardcore, their own darkly maniacal alt-metal signature sound had plenty of room to breathe. For 5 and a half minutes, District 13 prove the dynamism in their influence and talent as you are shunted through the unpredictably gratifying progressions. From hooky choruses to theatrical interludes to thrash metal breakdowns, Step into the Fire offers it all. We highly recommend any alt-metal fan with an open mind instead of a petulant fixation on the past purges themselves within Step into the Fire.

District 13 – Soma: Transfixingly Dark Evocatively Visceral Heavy Alt Rock

We’re always on the lookout for breaking bands who bring brand-new energy to Rock. And District 13 certainly didn’t disappoint with their transfixingly dark, evocatively visceral offering of Alt Rock “Soma”.

The instrumentals may be heavy, but there’s a striking amount of melodicism to ingest as the progressive hit unravels. Each new evolution in sound leaves you with yet another affirmation of District 13’s talent when it comes to fusing elements of Punk and Heavy Metal. You get the snappy riotous energy of Punk, orgasmically sweet guitar riffs, and harsh heavy tones all wrapped up in one sublime aural package.

That’s all without mentioning the vocals. If Jesus himself wept, it wouldn’t be as emotive as what guitarist and vocalist Jon Hartz Wild brought to Soma. The guttural drawn-out jagged whiskey-soaked screams will stay with me quite some time. But despite all of the raw emotion forcibly thrown into Soma, there was still plenty of upbeat energy to ensure that the track comes to a close without leaving you feeling like you’ve been put into an existential hole.

I’d be willing to put money on the London-based trio’s taking the scene by storm in 2020.

The band is a formidable live force. Destiny awaited when she found guitarist Phil-Honey-Jones who at the time was in a psychedelic rock – outfit named Nurotica. Phil had left his dysfunctional home as a young lad as well, and the two went on their way seeking solace in the world of music. Naming the band Healthy Junkies, reflecting the mental health epidemic currently spreading like wildfire through the core of the western society.

5. The World Over

Comprised of guitarist Ryan Knecht, bassist Juan Arguello, drummer Alejandro Mercado and led by the dynamic frontwoman, Tiaday Ball, The World Over has created a buzz that has resonated throughout the rock/metal world since the release of their first EP, Rampart District, in 2014. But, it was the release of Mountains (2017) that kicked down major doors for the band. The five-song EP was inspired by the lives of the band members. The title-track was inspired by a toxic friendship and the idea that sometimes in trying to save someone else, you can lose yourself. The popular video debuted on Tattoo.com and numerous popular rock fanzines. The success of Mountains has stretched past touring with Escape the Fate in the UK and Europe, Otep for two tours across the U.S. and even earned The World Over a spot on the very last Vans Warped Tour in 2018 rocking out for 7 shows alongside bands like Simple Plan, The Used, Chelsea Grin and 3oh3!.
