A&R Factory Present: Dappled Cities

Taking cues from the likes of David Bowie, Spoon, and Todd Rundgren, the quintets new cut ‘That Sound’ melds 70’s-inspired pop with modern day indie-rock and sees the band move away from the strictly produced material of previous records.

Vocalist / Guitarist Tim Derricourt describes the writing and recording process –

“We found ourselves in Byron Bay making a fittingly relaxed and positive record, taking all that we love about weirdo indie rock and adding some of that sweet 70s good time vibes to it – mellow beats, plenty of cowbell, layers of harmonies – true splendour.”

Since their first single ‘Be Engine’ hit rotation on triple j in 2002, Dappled Cities have continuously put out critically-praised and fan-adored records, toured USA, UK and Australia and pushed the boundaries of their music with every release.

Their studio albums A Smile (2004), Granddance (2007), Zounds (2009), and Lake Air (2012), as well as Many Roads: B-sides & Rarities (2014), have placed the band firmly in the spotlight of the Australian music scene. They have received high rotation on triple j and community radio, triple j feature album (three times), and picked up two ARIA nominations over this time.

To coincide with the new release, Dappled Cities announce two shows: Northcote Social Club, Melbourne on Friday July 15 and Oxford Art Factory, Sydney on Saturday July 16.

Tickets to the upcoming launch shows are on-sale June 1 and will be available from www.dappledcities.com

‘That Sound’ is available 1 June 2016

A&R Factory Present: Tales in Space

Tales in Space are excited to announce their new single, Stormy Eyes. The track delivers a combination of colourful chords and upbeat grooves, while dusted with a dark undertone of lo-fi production.

Luke Bertoz, the mastermind behind Tales in Space, has kept a low profile over the last year since releasing his debut album ‘Formula’ in late 2014; a collection of hard hitting pop tunes like ‘Shades’ and lush indulgent production heavy tracks like ‘Time Machine’, the album was delicious.

Though not making much noise of late, Luke hasn’t been taking a break, in fact, he’s been deeply immersed in song writing at his Coogee studio, creating album number 2, due for release later this year. In amongst producing his own music, he’s been producing emerging and top Australian artists including the forthcoming Dappled Cities record .

2014 saw the band release their debut record ‘Formula’ Bursting with quirky and imaginative indie-pop gems, Formula builds upon the same rousing, anthemic stylings of ‘Shades’, which won the The John Lennon Song writing competition, was nominated as a finalist in the Vanda & Young songwriting competition, and received high rotation on Triple J.

The band had a hugely successful 2013/14 with their hit ‘Shades’ and follow-up single, ”In A Million Places At Once’, as well as a huge run of tours including shows with The Cairos, Kingswood, and Stonefield.

Stormy Eyes is due for release April 22nd, the track has been mastered by Leon Zervos who has worked with many world-renowned artists, including Pink, Rihanna, Marron 5 and Beastie Boys. This is the first single taken from their forthcoming sophomore record. I dare you not to fall in love with this track.
